Mystery Sign Theater 3000, Monday

Another year, another Parents Weekend, another notably absence of either parents or friends or any visitors at all for Ulysses. He was used to it, so he was fine with it! Definitely hadn't had the worst couple of nights of sleep all filled with foreboding dreams about LA all on fire, waking up in a panic every time.

Anyway, movie theater was open.

Buy tickets from Uly, looking like he wants to go home.

On several levels.

Remy had had an . . . eventful 24 hours or so. Enough so to set him wandering and looking for distraction. Movies weren't typically his thing, but hey, sitting in the dark for a few hours, worrying about someone else's problems? Could be nice.

And buying tickets from the very pretty young man . . . that could be nice, too.

"Bonjour," he greeted. "This movie any good?"

You know what Ulysses wasn't expecting? Customers.

... And definitely not handsome ones, at that, Jesus. He blinked up at Remy.

"Uhhh, if you like satire and body horror, it's supposed to be?"

"Mmm." Remy bobbed his head. "Well, guess we'll find out, neh?"

"I mean, probably."

Great show, Uly. Excellent thing to say.

"So you want a ticket?"

Wow, Ully.

"Sure." Remy leaned his elbow on the counter. "I'm always up for a gamble."

"Well, the stakes aren't that high with this one," Ulysses had to say (more of his wits together, thankfully). "You can always walk out on the movie, come back for a refund."

They did not typically do refunds. Shush.

"Yeah, but would I have to talk you into that refund?" Remy asked, tilting his head. "Besides, it's not about the size of the risk, homme. It's about the thrill of taking one at all."

"Well, uh, you'd probably have to talk to me about the refund, anyway."

So... No.

"Might have to request a refund even if I like the movie, then," Remy said.

Uly hazarded a small smile, a little crooked.

"I mean, you'll know where to find me. I'm not going anywhere."

Remy’s own smile brightened. “Glad to hear it. So long as you get to leave eventually. I’m assuming you don’t live in that little office!”

"Uh, no," Ulysses confirmed, with a brief shake of his head. He probably shouldn't mention how terrible he was about coming to work in the first place. "An apartment, at MHA. A little bit bigger than this."

Probably too big for the money he was making, actually, but that was neither here nor there.

"Good," Remy said, then tilted his head. "And now the traditional Fandom question: are you new, or have I just not managed to meet you yet?"

The question got an awkward chuckle and something of a wry look out of Uly. "No, I'm not new," he said, shoving his fingers back through his curls. "I actually went to high school up there in the castle?"

The castle was hard to miss, so his little gesture up towards it probably wasn't needed, but... Whatever.

"Then I went to college somewhere else and ended up back here a little while after that, only here I'd only been gone for about a couple of weeks." He paused for a beat. "So, point is, absolutely not new."

Just super easy to not run into.

Remy nodded. Made a mental note of that handy little time gap there. Wondered if more time was going by back home than he'd noticed while living here.

Eh. Wasn't like there was much of anyone back there who'd miss him.

"So where've you been hiding, then?"

Smoking pot in his apartment.

"Oh, you know, I go on the mainland kind of a lot."

"Yeah? I've been exploring the city a bit myself. Any good spots?"

"Well..." Ulysses said, leaning back a little with a thoughtful look towards the ceiling of his tiny office, before rattling off a few ~~handwavy~~ night life type places.

There was not a predominantly straight bar or club among them.

"I mean, I go to those ones pretty regularly."

Oh yeah, Remy definitely noticed that. He'd been to a couple of those spots himself.

"I'll have to check those out, thanks."

Ulysses nodded.

And then, just throwing it out there, all casual, "Maybe we'll... run into each other."

"That could be nice," Remy said. "I'll look for you."

Buy snacks, wait around.
