The Magpie Emporium, Monday [23/12]

The store was open for people who'd left their gift shopping to the last minute, but there was a sign up by the register telling customers to talk to the roomba or the shop cat, (their better bet was Little Bot) as Vi was far more focused on the notebook she had open in front of her.

Look, it was very important she get this scenario right. She couldn't give Steph a worse present than last year, even if Steph wouldn't care, Vi would.

Since Vi was at work, Steph had taken the opportunity to head home and wrap Vi's presents while she wasn't around to see (but they still didn't live together, shut up), and with that done she stopped to pick up lunch on her way back to the store.

"Whatcha doing?" she asked, ducking inside with her head bare (the scandal!) and a beanie filled with chocolate coins in the hand not holding a bag of fried chicken.

Vi looked up and very obviously flipped the notebook closed. "It's a surprise," she said. "You'll find out when it's ready." Or in two days, even if it wasn't.

"Can't wait," Steph said with an affectionate smile, waggling her fingers in greeting at an unimpressed Saffron as she came over to give Vi a kiss. "Don't worry, I'll let you get back to it without me around to peer over your shoulder after lunch... and I have a game to run this evening so you'll have time later too, if you need it."

Vi smiled into the kiss. "Do you mind if I borrow your notes while you're not using them?"

Just because it'd been fine every time she'd done this for Steph so far...

Steph still had very fond (and mostly not-sexy, even) memories of her present from Vi last year, so she had a guess as to what the notes were for.

"Yeah, of course. You know where I keep them," she said, nudging her nose against Vi's. She had a whole shelf of sourcebooks and notes at home now, on top of the several reams of notes she also had in her office, which was kind of wild.

Vi kind of figured that Steph would guess what she was doing, it was just the adventure itself she was hoping would be a surprise.

Vi grinned at her. "Thanks, they'll be a big help." Never mind that Vi would inevitably abandon all her careful planning in an instant.

The adventure would be a surprise, and one of the best presents a forever GM could ever hope for, so Vi could rest assured that Steph would show her plenty of appreciation for it afterward. (Again, mostly not even sexy. Mostly.)

"It's what I'm here for, my love," Steph said cheerfully, and set the bag of chicken on the counter with a flourish. "That and to make sure you're fed, since you do the same for me."

It was certain of their other gifts that tended to result in sexy appreciation. Ahem.

"You take such good care of me," Vi said, half-teasing, half-sincere as she pulled Steph in for another kiss.

So those were going to be a yearly tradition too, huh? Good thing Steph had already taken that into account. Ahem.

Steph wrapped her arm around Vi's neck and kissed her back softly. "Call it one of my passions in life."

After all, dice weren't the only thing you couldn't have too many of.

Vi let her hands rest on Steph's hips, and rested their foreheads together. "Far be it for me to keep you from following them." Especially when she got lunch out of it.

You could fit so many more dice in the same amount of drawer space though.

"You're so supportive, babe," Steph said fondly. "Stop giving me more reasons to love you. Oh wait, don't."

That was a very true and complicating fact.

"Good, because I don't ever want to stop," Vi said, grinning brightly at her.

So it was just a good thing Steph wasn't particularly inclined to be a dice goblin, then. Their drawer space was going to be at even more of a premium in a couple of days.

"God, I hope not," she said, trying to pull Vi into a tight hug. "Though honestly, you don't even have to try. You're just that wonderful."

Especially when Steph wasn't the only one with gift ideas.

Vi was never going to turn down a hug from Steph. "Flatterer."

Perhaps additional drawers would be in order at that rate.

"Not flattery when it's just true," Steph retorted in a light singsong, and kissed the edge of Vi's ear.

After all, Steph did have far too many drawers for just one person.

That earned Steph a shiver, and Vi turned her head to nuzzle her neck. "Love you, dork."

Maybe if they ever actually put their clean laundry away...

Steph made a happy noise and snuggled up closer to Vi. "Love you too, weirdo."

But if they did that, they've have to acknowledge half the laundry was Vi's.

"Your weirdo." Vi kept one arm slung around Steph's waist as she reached for the bag of chicken. "Is this from the place with the really spicy sauce?"

Not counting the overlap of all the clothing they tended to share now, because that was impossible to keep track of.

"Your dork," Steph replied, resting her head on Vi's shoulder, "and yup. I know what you like."

It wasn't Vi's fault Steph had such good taste in clothes.

And apparently what Vi liked was subjecting her tastebuds to cruel and unusual punishment. "You do."

Just like it wasn't Steph's fault that she really liked wearing Vi's shirts even if they were too big for her.

"Don't say I don't take care of my girl." Look, Steph had ordered the sauce on the side for a reason. What Vi chose to do with it was her own business.

And Vi very much liked seeing Steph in her shirts, so win/win.

Look, prison did strange and unexpected things to a girl. "I'd never dare," Vi assured her.

Especially since Steph loved the way her clothes smelled after Vi wore them. There were no losers here, except for Saffron.

"I know you wouldn't," Steph assured her, and leaned in to kiss her cheek as she unpacked the napkins and condiment containers.

Just as long as Vi didn't, you know, injure her tongue with all that spice.

Poor Saffron, eternally hard done by.

"That's 'cause you're the best." Now who was the flatterer?

Look, Steph knew just how hardy her tongue was.

And yet, somehow she kept hanging on for the love of Snuggle Human.

"No, 'cause you're the best." It was both of them. They were both the worst.

Look, could you blame a girl for being overly protective of her girlfriend's tongue, no matter how hardy it was?

Her beloved Snuggle Human and her misguided affections.

"Are we going to have to throw down about this?" The Worst.

Of course not, that tongue served a very important purpose.

Look at Saffron gallantly not holding all that affection that should be hers by right, but was instead being diverted to Food Human, against Snuggle Human.

"That's a discussion we can have over dessert," Steph replied innocently. "Or we can wrestle about it later when we get home."

Several very important purposes, even.

She was holding it against Food Human instead.

"Or we can do both," Vi said, just as innocently. "To be on the safe side."

You could say it was one of Vi's most important organs.

As she always did. Look, it was only fair, if Food Human insisted on holding herself against Snuggle Human practically every waking minute.

"It doesn't hurt to be thorough." Steph nodded sagely. "Go me, dating a smart girl."

She needed that tongue for things besides talking during all their game nights! Ahem.

No, it didn't matter that Saffron was always bewailing the unfairness of the universe, she held herself to higher standards.

"It was one of your better decisions."

Vi had a very talented mouth, she needed to practice with it.

It was part of why she found the universe so disappointing.

"What, falling in love with you?" Steph nudged Vi lightly with her shoulder. "Yeah, I'd say it was."

Good thing they were very diligent about getting practice in.

It couldn't be that Saffron was wrong, it had to be the universe that was the problem.

Vi rested her head on Steph's shoulder. "I'm very fond of it."

It was nice when practice was a joy in and of itself rather than a chore.

Because Saffron was never wrong about anything.

"I'm very fond of you, dork," Steph said, kissing the top of her head.

Sometimes you had to remind yourself that practice was important and necessary. This was not one of those situations. ~~Because they were a perfectly matched pair of horny idiots.~~
