Homecoming 2017, Community Centre [Saturday Evening]

Just when you thought it was time for the island's collective consciousness to maybe move on from the whole sharkicane thing... along came Homecoming! Well, the theme was actually "Under the Sea", but like the Student Council wasn't going to have glitter-encrusted sharks feature heavily in the decorations? Please.

Of course, it wasn't just sharks: there were plenty of glitter-dolphins, and fish, and octopuses octopi octopodes too. Jellyfish-shaped lights hung from the ceiling, and strategically-placed LED projectors were set up to complete the underwater ambiance.

Peridot, who had gathered enough about Homecoming by now to know that she was meant to dress up, walked in wearing the bow in her hair that Ada had given to her ages ago. She stopped a few steps in, squinted a little at the decorations, and tilted her head.

"I'm never going to understand these things," she muttered.

Breq was here mostly because she was a member of StuCo, or so she told herself. She had no clothes suitable for occasions like these, and she thought her money could be spent better, but she wore nice and clean clothes and a pair of gloves.

Leto had enough of dressing up in extravagant clothing at home -- or rather, the people around him did -- so he wore Fremen clothes, knowing that they would soon be glittery anyway.

"Water creatures!" Hania exclaimed, running off to get a starfish hairclip, or five. Leto was going to keep an eye on her.

Former student, former teacher, of course Reno was going to be here, smirking as he looked around the place. Heh. Sea creatures. Cute. And shit, he almost even missed the glitter. He took one of the seashell necklaces mostly for shits and giggles and then set out to see if he could spot any familiar faces.

He even wore a suit for the occasion.

Two years ago, Summer would have been mortified to not have a date for a homecoming dance, but she was a very different person than Summer Two Years Ago. For example, Summer Two Years Ago hadn't been married not too long ago, and, while no one here had caught wind that she'd been married, she was going to come and show up and revel in her singledom. Whoo!

...or maybe it kind of snuck up on her and she hadn't had the time to really ask anyone, shhhh.

Whatever, she looked cute as hell in a purple dress and was going to have fun. And gawk voyeuristically at all the Fandomites of days gone by.

The advantages of knowing the theme ahead of time meant one could dress to match. So yeah, Eric was wearing a deep royal blue tux with a dress shirt in a pale turquoise.

He was gonna skip the hairclip, but bedecked himself with a seashell necklace.

"Ah-ha!" Sidon, dressed in all his finest princely accoutrements (which were pretty much what he usually wore, only a little bit fancier), couldn't help but laugh with delight as he walked into the dance. "Why, this is fantastic! Marvelous! Exquisite!"

He got more and more excited the more he looked, chuckling between his compliments to the underwater theme that, while making him a little homesick, was really quite appreciated for this fishman out of water!

Without her income from Demon Marcus, Ada hadn't had enough money to get a new dress this year. Instead, she'd pulled the dress she'd worn to her first ever Fandom dance. If anyone said something -- though she doubted most people would even realize -- she'd say it was nostalgia.

She walked in, took one look at the seashell necklace she was offered, and went paler than usual as she declined it. If her grip on her date's hand tightened a little bit, well, she was doing an excellent job in not just running out.

Ada'd improved a lot over the last few years: she could make (and take) jokes about her condition. Hell, she could use the word 'mermaid' without wanting to cry. But she was never, ever, going to be thrilled about the ocean.

Just about any kind of dance-buffet-appropriate food you could imagine. And also two bowls of punch, one of which has a very polite-but-stern notecard propped up in front of it reminding attendees that not everyone could or would enjoy spiked punch.

Sparkle was a graduate and a brief teacher, and therefore he was going to behave-himself-kinda and not spike the punch.

He had a flask on him specifically so that he could spike his own glass, instead.
