Homecoming 2017, Community Centre [Saturday Evening]

Just when you thought it was time for the island's collective consciousness to maybe move on from the whole sharkicane thing... along came Homecoming! Well, the theme was actually "Under the Sea", but like the Student Council wasn't going to have glitter-encrusted sharks feature heavily in the decorations? Please.

Of course, it wasn't just sharks: there were plenty of glitter-dolphins, and fish, and octopuses octopi octopodes too. Jellyfish-shaped lights hung from the ceiling, and strategically-placed LED projectors were set up to complete the underwater ambiance.

"Weenie," Raven teased. "There's nothing better than curling up in a sleeping bag with someone when it's really cold out."

"Counterpoint: curling up under a big blanket on the couch, with a scary movie on TV and cups of warm apple cider in your hand," Kathy argued. "Still get the warm and cozy but with bonus entertainment and refreshments and non of the worry about the weather."

"Ohhhh!" Kathy said, turning pink and bubbling up with laughter. "I thought you meant--I wasn't thinking like that!"

She'd honestly been thinking of just lying in a warm sleeping bag and staring up at the stars.

Which Raven would argue would also not require anything by way of outside entertainment, if you were with the right person.

She sighed a little. "Yeah . . . I miss Misfit."

"Have you..." Kathy faltered, uncertain this was a good thing to suggest. "Have you thought about looking for them in this world? See if they exist here?"

Raven looked down and away. "I don't think I'd know where to start. What if they picked a different name here? And it's not like you can look up people hiking through the mountains on the internet."

"Well, actually, you sorta can," Kathy mused. "Not officially, but people are always talking about their trips, posting pictures, stuff like that. Do you know their legal name?"

She nudged Raven. "If only we knew people who specialized in finding folks based on the thinnest information possible."

Raven shook her head. "Legal names weren't important. Legal wasn't important. And anyway, I'm sure it's different for them in this world."

They'd have their pick of people when there wasn't an apocalypse. Even someone who didn't like most people could probably find someone when the world hadn't ended.

Kathy would be the first person to stand up and remind Raven that her value didn't stop just because the world kept spinning, dammit.

"I know, but if you'd gotten even their first or last name, it could be a start. As well as any of the details they shared about their past, where they're from..." She shook her head. "I'm just saying, Raven. Misfit made you happy. I can see it in your face when you talk to them. And finding acceptance in this world is really, really hard sometimes. Even if you two don't end up together, having one more friend who accepts them for who they are instead of who they 'should' be...that's a gift beyond price. You know that."

"They grew up in the mountains," Raven said finally, softly. "They picked the name 'Robin' before -- everything happened. They moved to New York when their family couldn't accept them, but there were too many people, so they went back out into the woods. The fact that they were all alone when the end came is probably why they survived."
