Homecoming 2017, Community Centre [Saturday Evening]

Just when you thought it was time for the island's collective consciousness to maybe move on from the whole sharkicane thing... along came Homecoming! Well, the theme was actually "Under the Sea", but like the Student Council wasn't going to have glitter-encrusted sharks feature heavily in the decorations? Please.

Of course, it wasn't just sharks: there were plenty of glitter-dolphins, and fish, and ~~octopuses~~ ~~octopi~~ octopodes too. Jellyfish-shaped lights hung from the ceiling, and strategically-placed LED projectors were set up to complete the underwater ambiance.

"Awesome," Dante decided, reaching out to swipe up some ambient glitter. "I'm the guy without a shirt, you're the girl in the seethrough dress. We match."

"The real question is, why did Anders feel he needed to wear more layers to make up for us," Kathy said. Sure, their boyfriend was looking good--very good--tonight, but seeing him in the sweater just made Kathy's fingers itch to peel him out of it.

"He went total pretentious hipster," Dante sighed. "Fucker had to look good like that too."

"Right?" Kathy exclaimed. "That's just rude. He's got, like, this whole young, hot librarian thing going on and--yeah, yeah, I know, not your kink."

But she was already planning on going through some gifs till she found one of people banging against a bookcase for a new update to Multiples.

"I dunno, I could do a librarian if he looked like that," Dante mused. "Muss up that pretty hair of his some more."

"Drag him deep into the stacks," Kathy said with a dreamy smile. "Rumple that sweater something fierce."

"There's something to be said about getting a guy out of a hipster grandpa sweater," Dante mused.

Hi, mental image.

"...Why stop at the sweater?" Kathy asked, leaning in to whisper a few key suggestions into Dante's ear.

Dante sighed softly. "'cause it's nice," he said. "No sweater, jeans on--"

Oh right, crap. Public party. "... But we'll get to that later."

"So, the plan is to pounce on Anders before he even knows what's what?" she asked, a predatory smile flickering over her face. "Later, I mean. After we go home."

Because, again, public party.

"Yep," Dante said, fixing her with a sunny... smirk. "Sounds like a plan to me."

"And before then...wanna dance?" she asked, quirking an eyebrow at him. "Just a little while," she added. "I don't wanna take time away from you saying hi to people."

She knew he missed Ada and Isabela, at least.

"Always wanna dance," Dante said, reaching for her hand.

It was a smile of pure happiness, not seduction, that crossed Kathy's face as she grabbed Dante's hand to head for the dance floor. "Me too," she agreed. "And it's been way too long since I had a chance."

"It's been a while since we had a dance, full stop," Dante said, letting her tug him along.

"Prom yeah," Kathy said, her expression a little wry. "Which is probably the last dance until your prom."

"Feels like a long time since prom," Dante said, grinning easily at her.

Completely at ease, in fact.

"Maybe that's why this one is called 'Homecoming,'" Kathy said. "Certain amount of symbology there, especially since Prom technically means 'walking.'"

Prom, the beginning of the journey to get home again. That was all Kathy had ever really wanted.

"I always did have better luck at Homecoming than prom."

"Well, I'm glad we got home on Homecoming," Dante said, smiling at her as he turned to face her on the dance floor. "Life's good."

"I'm happy," Kathy said with a nod and a soft smile. "I don't want anything to change."

"Good," Dante said softly, eyes searching her face. "Me neither."

"I guess we'll just have to make sure it doesn't," she said, sliding into the beat.

"Works for me," Dante said.

He joined her in that beat, his hands on her hips.

Kathy winked at him, keeping just enough distance to make sure the chaperones had no reason to look their way.

Well...mostly. Sometimes she couldn't help getting a little handsy. Because he was gorgeous. Not just sexy, but gorgeous.

"I'd say I'd drink to that, but we just got on the floor."

"We'll dance to that, then get drinks?" Dante asked, putting on a bit of a sway.
