Homecoming 2017, Community Centre [Saturday Evening]

Just when you thought it was time for the island's collective consciousness to maybe move on from the whole sharkicane thing... along came Homecoming! Well, the theme was actually "Under the Sea", but like the Student Council wasn't going to have glitter-encrusted sharks feature heavily in the decorations? Please.

Of course, it wasn't just sharks: there were plenty of glitter-dolphins, and fish, and octopuses octopi octopodes too. Jellyfish-shaped lights hung from the ceiling, and strategically-placed LED projectors were set up to complete the underwater ambiance.

Karolina was supervising! In a dress that didn't much differ from the ones that she'd worn when she'd gone to these things as a student herself.

She was also wearing one of the starfish hairclips because how could she not?

As a Responsible Adult, Aphra was chaperoning.

Given Aphra's levels of responsibility, that meant she was already into the spiked punch.

Tony was a perfectly responsible adult. Who was nursing a glass of the spiked punch while trying his best to stay glitter free.

It wasn't working.

Karolina was trying to be subtle about her repeated glances in Tony's direction. But she wasn't very successful.

Once Tony gave up and just let the glitter happen, he was able to glance back at her and give a little wave.

This could honestly go either way depending on how she seemed to recognize him.

Well, guess the time for attempted subtlety was done. After a brief hesitation, Karolina gave him a wave back. And then, after a slightly less brief hesitation, she made her way over.

"Hi," she said, "um, sorry, but... are you Tony Stark?"

Or was it just the beard?

"Technically, probably not?" Karolina offered, now smiling a little wryly and sheepishly. "But I went to school here with a version of you."

She paused.

"Also before that, another version of you tried to send me to child protective services."

"I can safely say I am neither of those versions," Tony replied. But the latter sounded sort of like something he might do if he thought they needed it.

Where "supervise" meant standing around in a dark green tuxedo, watching what fun and/or trouble people got into, and drinking his own wine.

Steve had dug his dress blues, complete with Eisenhower jacket, out from the back of his closet and was now watching the punch bowl to make sure the kids didn't add too much booze to it.

Because jumping Tony in front of a bunch of teenagers would be Extremely Unprofessional.

Atton half-turned abruptly towards her. It'd been a while since he'd last seen her; he maybe looked a little surprised.

"Made it all the way down from the throne this year, huh?"

"The same as I've been for years," Atton said, and was mildly surprised by his own honesty, too. He'd blame Sia for it. "Working here, showing up back home to be the handsome hero, giving Mical all the noogies he needs. It's just... fine."

Not exciting or good, but not terrible either. He was tired of highs and lows.

"I was seen somewhere I wasn't supposed to be," she admitted. "I thought it best to lay low, and then I found out that it was this time again, so nothing stopped me from coming back."
