The Park, Friday Evening

Shortly before sunset, the party was ready to start. The park was decorated with classy black and white decorations, music was playing from hidden speakers, food and drinks were set up, there was a man from the bank with a stack of giant checks….

So apparently there were a couple things that set this apart from the normal Fandom party.

The setting sun was an unsubtle reminder that summer was about to end. And that was what this was all about, really, besides the orphans. One last big party with your friends who would be gone soon, a week before a brand new big party with your incoming friends. This was for you, Fandom, and also the orphans.

It was also probably notable that the guy throwing the party was not there yet. Which just went to show that you could still show up fashionably late even if you were the host, planner, AND decorator.

There was an archway into the party area where. See people and be seen here! Bruce's volunteer greeter, Karina, will be along to, well, greet people. She volunteered to do so. Hence the title.

Jaina wasn't a party person as much as she liked having things to do, so she figured she could show up for a while, grab a drink, and see who showed up.

And wonder about the giant checks.

Rilla had a new dress, her hair up her darling silver French heels from Leslie Ford on her feet, and a bright smile on her face as she arrived for the party.

Any excuse to dress up and dance was a good one in her opinion.

A party? Before she had to return to long hours of schoolwork and not nearly enough fabulousness? Of course Emma was here, and looking fabulous as usual as she mingled about.

Or he owned a tuxedo, looked good in it and was willing to handle a stifling August night to help out the kids and stuff.

While Kitty didn't really know Bruce well or anything, she figured that if he was one of the people donating to the high school, she could put on a nice dress and show up for a while. And maybe complain about the sun setting early.

Nikolai really needed to get out more. After the damn harpy things last weekend, he'd been taking it easy, letting his shoulder heal, but a week in his room watching hotel pay-per-view could only entertain him so much, and if there was going to be a party tonight...

Hey, he was totally in it for the sake of the charities, too. But going stir-crazy for a week meant that he was a little more gung-ho about dragging his ass out to the park tonight than he otherwise might be.

Even if he was occasionally turning warning looks toward the pond in case the flamingos decided to get any ideas tonight.

Hannibal made it a point of being charitable and had a rather severe dislike of the conditions in most orphanages, so he made it a point of showing up for the party. Besides, it never hurt to make acquaintances and be seen.

It was funny, but for all that Sparkle's weekday chic generally involved torn jeans and hand-me-down sleeveless shirts, the kid actually cleaned up pretty well. Sure, he had skipped his Dite's shift in order to pick out an appropriate outfit, and then he had to do his hair, and by the time he'd done all that, Velcro had shed all over his shirt and then he had to go and do the same damn thing over again, and...

Well, he was here, anyhow.

And yeah, there was cash in his pocket. He wasn't looking for a tax write-off or anything stupid like that. But he was a high school student working two jobs, and this was for a cause he could get behind.

Shut up.

Tony had enough experience with fundraisers to wander right on in and grab a drink. Okay, so the drinking didn't really happen back in New York because of tabloids, but still.

A party was a party.

Plus, it was Bruce's. So, of course he showed up.

Hanna wasn't exactly in a celebratory mood considering what was happening back home, but she also needed an excuse to not think about it for awhile. A party seemed like a good one right now.

Karina was pretty busy running around and making sure everyone was having a good time, being the official greeter and all, but should anyone need her for anything, she'd be more than happy to see what she could do.

Jack was a bit melancholy -- less because summer was about to end, more because the end of summer meant Emma was moving back to New York.

Not that he was going to show it at a party. He was done up to the nines in his suit, smiling slightly as he moved through the crowd.

Clint always felt a little awkward in a suit, like it would be obvious to everyone that he was out of his league. Still, the discomfort was nothing a little mingling and flirting wouldn't fix, and this whole thing seemed to be for a good cause, if the checks were anything to judge by.

Over by the duck pond (which was suspiciously free of ducks, perhaps because somebody bribed them….) was the buffet table and an open bar. The bartender wasn't going to ask questions, but remember, this is a benefit for orphans. Before you get drunk and dive in the pond, won't you think of the children?

The children who would probably love seeing pictures of exactly that, actually.

Cade was here for the open bar because, well, Cade and benefit galas for orphans weren't really things that mixed.

Though he was drinking a beer and musing if he could get one of those giant checks, being an orphan himself and all...

Novelty Checks

Would you like to donate something to local orphanages? If you'd like, there's someone from the bank here willing to turn your donation into a giant novelty check to the local orphanages. Any amount of money will be accepted as low as one dollar. And then you get the joy of giving a giant check to Bruce Wayne to give to the kids, but let's be honest, the draw here is the giant check.

Considering that the Emma from the reunion weekend had been a heavy donor to Bo and Kenzi's orphanage, Emma figured she might as well start her philanthropy early. Besides, it was a tax write-off.

So here she was, writing a fairly substantial check for the cause. It meant she'd have to cut down on her back-to-school wardrobe, but she could make it work.

Tony rolled his eyes in amusement at the novelty checks before checking his bank account to see how much he could afford between school and funding his own endeavors.

Yeah, that was still weird to have to do.

There was going to be an NPC orphan in this post, but he got into the open bar and was found trying to wrestle the ducks, so he had to be removed from the premesis.
