Groovy Tunes; Thursday [02/06].

It was the first Thursday of the month, which meant it was time for another Open Mic Night at Groovy Tunes, so Stewart had spent the majority of his day in the store getting prepared for it, which, this time around, included setting up a light display in the window around the sign in it advertising the event to flash in time with the beat of whatever was playing on the stereo at any given time.

It took him a few tries, and he somehow managed to shock himself more that once, but after a while, he almost found himself trying to figure out how not to avoid it, but rather to do it intentionally to purposely get that little burst of electric shock running through him again.

You know. Totally normal response to unexpected electrocution.

Or come on over that evening to listen in on some Open Mic performances or get ready for a performance of your own! See how long it takes you to realize the string lights Stewart put up around the window and the stage area are blinking in time with the Dirt Monkey pre-show music.

Graham had noticed! And was very impressed, with a little "ooooooh!" once he realized it, and then his head was bopping along with both the beats and the lights, and there was a pretty good chance his body was likely to follow.

Keep in mind, he did come from a world without electricity (well, until Amaya moved back there, anyway!), so he was pretty easy to impress, and he wouldn't be entirely convinced that magic wasn't involved at least a little bit.

"Cool, right?" Charlie said with a grin

"Very cool!" Graham agreed, grinning back. "I was just thinking of how it would be even cooler if the lights were dimmed in here, too, you know? Then you could really notice the lights!"

Please, no one allow Stewart to ever take this poor guy to a rave.

He then tilted his head thoughtfully at Charlie, an idea starting to grow, and then....he laughed as it reached its fruition.

"Hey!" he said. "You know, it's almost like magic, so that makes me wonder if you could do a cool charm that'll make your hair change colors with the music like the lights! Have you done a charm like that before, actually?"

It wouldn't surprise him if she had!

"I... have not," Charlie said slowly. "I've charmed it to shift colors, but..."

She looked up at the lights, fingers twitching, lips moving as she counted and pondered. "But if I..." She started a sketch in the air, then rubbed it out.

"No, not that, but maybe... Okay, if I connect it to the stereo system and then... okay, the light pattern goes..." Her fingers danced in the air, sketching between the lights and the stereo and her hair. "With a little bit of... Yes... yes, I think..."

She finished off the last stroke of the charm and her hair immediately picked up the blink, flashing all the color patterns of the lights in time with them and the music.

Charlie grinned over at Graham. "Hope nobody has a problem with flashing lights."

Graham was watching Charlie work through her charm process with open fascination and amusement, so there was already a grin on his face by the time she was finished. And once she was? All there was left to do was grin even wider, eyes dancing on the shifting colors, and breath out an approving, impressed, "Awesome. Perfect! I knew you could do it, Charlie! Hue always pull through any hairy situation with flying colors!"

Charlie laughed. "Light work for your bright ideas!"

Belle was impressed with those lights once she noticed them. How clever to synchronize them!

"Greetinfs, my good lady," said Graham, grinning over at Belle as he dipped into a refal bow with a tip of his adventuring cap. "How are you this evening? Did you have a nice day ag the library? No gremlins being too unruly? And did you notice the lights? They're on time with the music! Isn't that neat?"

"Good evening, Sir Knight!" Belle dropped into a curtsy and beamed at Graham. "I'm quite well, thank you. The gremlins were quiet and I read a mystery. How are you? And I did! The lights are so clever! I wouldn't have thought of doing something like that."

Amazing what you didn't think of when you hadn't been raised with electricity.

"Oh, I'm great," Graham assured her with enthusiasm. "Thanks! And ooooh, a mystery! Did you finish it? Was it good? Could you predict the ending before you got to it? Did the butler do it??"

"It was very good," Belle said. "It was set in a hotel during an ice storm and the hotel was haunted though that isn't clear at first. I suspected the ending but I wasn't certain until I got there. But no, there was no butler at all so he couldn't have possibly done it. Will you be performing tonight, Graham?"

"Although if the butler did do it even without there even being one," Graham offered,"zounds! No one would see that twist coming!"

He chuckled a little as he shook his head. "And probably not. I mostly like just seeing what Charlie and Stewart come up with! But maybe one of these days, I'll find a good song to do! I should see if Triumph wants to do one some time! He's a great singer, you know! What about you? Do you think you might grace us with a little bit of a singing Belle?"

"Perhaps if I take another writing class I'll try to think of a twist that outrageous, just for you," Belle said with a smile.

"I also enjoy seeing what Charlie and Stewart do. I'm not really a performer myself."

She could read out loud? But that was hardly worth doing in this context, now was it?

Maybe she could read it to accompaniment! Triumph could provide the music. Or Graham could learn a little bit of drums, and they could do some beat poetry!

"Well, who says you need to take a whole writing class for it?" he asked. "I bet, if you really put your heart and mind into it, you could come up with something really amazing! Same for a performance, too!"

"You're so sweet," Belle told him. "But perhaps you're right. Maybe I will try to think of something to read."

Maybe she'd be inspired to write something next week? Who could say, really?

"Hey, Belle, look at my hair!" Charlie pointed to her hair that was changing color in synch with the lights. "Graham suggested it. Fun, huh?"

"I love it," Belle told her. "I've never seen anything like it."

Maybe Charlie could charm hair for the next dance or party!

"It's fun, but I think outside of a night like this, a little too much. Even for me," Charlie admitted with a grin.

And she would absolutely do people's hair for a party. Or make their clothes sparkly or whatever.

"It could be distracting," Belle said. "But fun for a night, surely."

Ooh, maybe jewelry that light up in time with music for dances?

"Definitely fun for tonight. And now that I know how to do it, it's easy," Charlie said. "Want your hair to blink?"\

Jewelry would be super easy!

Belle paused for just a moment then nodded. "I think I would! I've never tried anything like that."

Now that she knew how to do the charm, it was only a matter of seconds before Belle's hair had joined Charlie's in synching with the lights and music. "Hey, now we match!"

"We do!" Belle shook her head, letting her newly blinky colored hair wave around.

"Thank you, Charlie!"

"You're welcome!" Charlie shook her hair around as well. "We can rock out to all the music together."

Take to the stage and perform your heart out! Be it music or something else entirely, because isn't any form of self-expression just the music of the soul? That's the excuse Stewart plans on using if he ever doesn't have a set ready any given first Thursday and just gets on stage and dances.

Charlie took the opportunity to play some of the songs the band she was in would be performing over the weekend. They were surprisingly decent for being a strange mix of punk and country.

Belle cheered for her friend. Of course. That's why she was here.

Stewart had always been big about promoting his fellow Canadian musicians (even if he was trying hard to not think about how, apparently, that love for local music would lead him down a very dark path of record producer in the future), but, for some reason, he was feeling particularly inclined to lean into that now more than ever.

So his set was going to start with a remix on Keys n Krates to get everyone pumped up from the beginning. From there, obviously, he had to hit up Celine, which also made for a good segue into some Shania, which naturally then had to go hard into some Kittie, then hit that up with a little Annihilator, and then, to conclude, obviously...Rush.

Belle's hair was now synced with the music and she couldn't help but be a bit distracted by that during Stewart's set. But not too distracted. Not enough to keep her from thoroughly enjoying the music. Even dancing a bit.
