Cafe Fina, Sunday 4/5

It had been a pretty ordinary day for Fai. Get up, open the cafe as usual...check on the zombified employee to make sure he was still tied up in the corner.

Kurogane had disappeared, likely off finding more zombies to destroy, but Fai didn't mind. He passed the time by throwing meat scraps to Warren, clapping gleefully whenever a piece actually landed in Warren's mouth.

It might be a bizarre pastime, but it was actually very fun.

Later that day, when the curse had finally lifted, Warren found himself slowly coming back to his senses.

... Propped up in a corner. Tied up. With bits of meat sitting around him.

"Wha...?" Cue memory in 5, 4, 3... "Oh."

Oh.

"Ah! You're back!" Fai smiled, seeing the normal Warren instead of the creepy zombie Warren. "No strange desires for brains anymore?"

Warren actually looked a little ill at the word.

"Oh, God no," he grunted, squirming a bit as his gaze dropped down to the ropes binding him.

...

"Sorry."

"Weirder things have happened," Fai said, getting up and going over to untie Warren. "I'm glad you came here so that we could keep you out of any other trouble." He smiled warmly, offering Warren a hand up.

Warren looked at the hand for a minute before actually reaching for it, giving his head a small shake while he worked on gathering his wits again.

"Thanks. For that, I mean. The... tying me up thing. That was..."

Nice?

"Useful?" Fai supplied. "Don't worry about it, Warren. It might not seem like it sometimes, but Kuro-rin does care about people. He likes you, and so do I. We'll protect you when we can."

All he could really think of doing was nod. Slowly and tiredly and maybe he could crawl under a table and they wouldn't make him come out again. That'd be nice, too.

"I'd say I don't really need protecting, but..."

Finishing sentences was hard, today.

"Everybody does, sometimes. Myself and Kurogane included." Fai slid an arm around Warren's shoulders and gave him a little squeeze, then let go before he could freak the boy out by invading his personaly bubble for too long. "Do you want an escort up to the school?"

The hug was... actually kind of welcome, and Warren managed to keep from tensing up too much at the contact.

"I think I can manage," he replied, his gaze on the floor. "I mean, it's safe out there. I haven't needed anyone to hold my hand in a long while."

... He'd love someone to walk him home, yes.

"Then I won't hold your hand. I'll just walk with you to make sure you get back okay." Fai smiled, leading the way to the door. "I could use the fresh air, myself."

He cared about his adopted little boy, after all.

And so long as Fai didn't actually call him his 'little boy' to his face, Warren was perfectly okay with that.

"Thanks," he decided, tiredly following Fai to the door. "I appreciate it."

"You're welcome. And you know, you can come by even if you're not scheduled to work," Fai pointed out. "It's nice just to see you and know you're doing well."

There. Invitation extended, if Warren ever felt like he needed somewhere to go. Now to get him home to the dorms before he passed out.
