Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday Afternoon

So, last night's romantic musical cartoon about unicorns was not the light-hearted affair she'd been hoping for. Umm, at all. The romance didn't even get a happy ending. So, Karla was spending her shift trying to find another movie that she could watch instead. So far, she'd found one about bunnies that looked promising (because what could go wrong with bunnies on an adventure?), and another that sounded like a heartwarming tale about a man and his pet mouse.

The search was taking longer than it should, however. Maybe it was because she was on the work computer, but most of the results that came back were most definitely NOT what she was looking for.

Though the store's inventory could benefit from a few, no doubt.

"So did we ever name the cock?" Kenzi had gotten out of Self Defense class, then gone for a mocha, then started checking out stuff around town, and oh look. Here was Karla, to bug again.

Karla snapped her finger. "No!" she said, ducking behind the counter and pulling out receipts and things. "I know we voted on that awhile ago...now where did I put those results, do you remember?"

"Were they next to the broken Magic Tongue or the new tubes of flavored lube?" Kenzi leaned on the counter and stood on tip-toe, trying to see over it.

"Definitely not the flavoured lube," Karla said, trying to paw through all the assorted junk under the register. "I got hungry and started sampling those the other week. Protip? Avoid the guacamole one. Ugh."

It was horrifying even on crackers.

"Who'd want their junk to taste like avocados with hot sauce?" Kenzi wondered, spinning the little display of condoms and chocolates, and chocolate-flavored condoms. "Bleah. Also, I think that stuff is mostly oil, isn't it? Calories." Not that Karla had to worry about it. Or Kenzi, really.

"Okay, there's a ton of stuff in this building that makes me ask 'who would want that?'" Karla pointed out. "Guacamole lube is just one more thing I add to that list."

"True," Kenzi conceded. "Although a lot of this stuff just makes me curious. Like the costumes. And the glass stuff. And the swings. I keep thinking you'd knock stuff over if you were having a really good time."

"The swings are fun," Karla said. Then thought of how that sounded and blushed furiously. "Not like that! Warren and I put one up at the back of 'Dite's once!"

Kenzi snickered, and put her chin in her hands. "So he's the kind of guy who'll help you out with anything? At all? Good to know!"

Karla eyed Kenzi, full of suspicions. "Dammit. I can't actually say no to that, because it's true. Though I think you mean it some way I can't figure out but is dirty somehow."

Kenzi gave her a toothy grin. "You'd know better than me. Your guy, right?" She picked up a chocolate to unwrap. "So how long have you two been together?"

Her hands firmly shoved into the pockets of her leather jacket, Hayley awkwardly stepped into Dite's. She walked over to the counter where Karla was and blew a huff of air into the bangs that had gotten in her face.

"So, uhhh, hi," she said, feeling incredibly awkward.

There was only awkwardness on one side of this conversation. Karla glanced up from her screen and her face broke into a wide grin. "Hayley!" she said, coming around the counter, arms spread for a hug. "Look at you! That was you the radio mentioned!"

"You're not mad I didn't say anything before?" Hayley said, a bit of relief in her tone as she went and hugged her younger friend. "I coulda sworn that you'd be all 'what took you so long!'"

Karla just laughed and squeezed Hayley tighter. "Two weekends ago half the island was out of their minds and I spent most of the last week cooped up in my room. Even if you'd tried to find me, you probably wouldn't have been able to. So no worries, darling."

"Yeah, well, it's been two weeks and I ain't tried to get hold of anybody. I guess I just felt kind of guilty, you know?" she said, not letting go of the hug. "So, sorry about that. And the whole not talking much for awhile before then."

"Communication is a two-way street," Karla pointed out, in no hurry to let go, either. "If I were mad at you for not calling, you'd have every right to be just as mad at me."

And Karla was pretty good with the number of people currently mad at her, thank much.

"What brings you back to Fandom? Other than excellent hugs, I mean."

"Oh, well, you know," Hayley said with a shrug. Which was somewhat of an achievement as they were still hugging. "Gotham kinda seemed a little different after that whole 'being temporarily dead' thing."

"Yeah, nobody even knew what I was talkin' about," Hayley said with a nod. "Made most of 'em just think I was goin' crazy again."

She shuddered a bit, a frown on her face. "That wasn't any fun at all."

It was a good thing they were still hugging. Karla just had to hold her a little closer after that. "Not fun here, either. In the end, it was a few of us, trapped in Special Collections."

Which had been an experience in and of itself.

"The library? Gee, I guess there are worse places to be stuck, but..." Hayley said, trailing off a bit. "But you all managed to fix it, so that's good. That or we all died and heaven is just like normal life which kinda sucks if you think about that."
