It's been years since Azula last pampered herself. After Iroh's unexpected and unwelcome appearance last week Azula thought it was only right she pamper herself again.

Today the whole day was going to be devoted to pampering herself.

"This was a great idea you had," Hayley said, joining Azula. "I never really done this sort of thing."

"Of course," she said, voice languid. "If we can't pamper ourselves once in a while, what's the point of working?"

"Money?" Hayley said, thinking that made sense.

"Money," Azula said scornfully, "is easy to acquire. Power is a better goal. But think on it Hayley, after months in battle to return to this kind of luxury. Its worth spending sometime out in battle."

"Gee," Hayley said. "I guess it depends on what the battle is for, right?"

Dear god, she was showing some independent thought. Everyone run!

Azula turned her head, lifted an eyebrow, "What's this are you actually thinking for yourself, Hayley? Has the sun turned blue?"

"...Jeepers, I'd hope I'd have noticed if that happened!" Hayley said. "I don't remember it being blue."

...Still Hayley, then.

Right.

Azula face forward again and closed her eyes. "Out of curiosity what are you willing to fight for, Hayley."

Hayley thought for a second. "Elle," she said. "And you, of course."

"Elle?" Azula queried, "she's our classmate in Ethics, yes?"

"Yeah," Hayley said. "She's really nice, and really sweet."

"Nice and sweet," Azula repeated.

"Well... to me, at least," Hayley said. "She's great."

"Perhaps I should speak with her one of these days," Azula said, enjoying the relaxing massage on her scalp.

"I'm sure you'd get along just great," Hayley said. "After all, I get along with both of you."

"Perhaps," she said, non-committal. "What color are you getting for your manicure?"

"Red," Hayley said. "...or maybe black. Ooooh, maybe both. Which do you think?"

"Red," she said automatically because she was Azula. "Black is a dull color. You want to standout, not blend in."

"Well, they can make a great contrast," Hayley said. "But I'll go with the red. It sounds like you'll like it better."

"And I thought you were beginning to have your own opinions," she said with a smirk. "It doesn't matter to me what color you prefer."

"Oh, well," Hayley said. "I said it was between two. That was, like, my own opinion, right?"

She was trying. Sort of.

A fawning minion was well and good but they also need to think for themselves once in a while. In battle Azula needed someone who can anticipate her thoughts just like Mai and Ty Lee had done.

"And so how are you planning to proceed from there?"

"...get my nails painted red?" Hayley said, not quite following.
