Caritas: Friday Night

Jessica knew there were visitors to the island tonight, so she expected the bar to be busy. So before she opened up for the night, she repeated a mantra to herself about not biting anybody no matter how much she wanted real blood.

Tino kept edging nervously away from her for some reason.

After the carnival, Leda wanted something to drink, and she wanted the kind of ambiance that only a place with Zombies on stage could provide.

She wondered how they kept them from smelling.

"You want somethin' to drink?" Jessica asked.

"Yes please. Something with either a lot of sugar, or a lot of caffeine. Or even both." She didn't feel strange ordering soda in a bar. But she might have felt strange about ordering coffee. "Red Bull or Jolt perhaps?"

"We got some Red Bull, I know that," Jessica said, ducking behind the bar. She found a can and poured half of it in a glass, then slid the glass and the rest of the can over to Leda. "There ya go."

After the Carnival, Romeo made plans to meet Reno at the bar for a few drinks.

He promised Dojima this would not be the kind of 'few drinks' that turned into 'and by the way, we're running off to join the circus.' Though he could never really be sure.

He smiled at the bartender as he slid onto his stool. "Will you laugh at me if I order an appletini?"

"She might not, but I will," Reno cooed, stepping up behind Romeo.

It was a Turk thing. If Romeo wasn't used to it by now, Reno would be concerned or something, really.

"How you been, man?"

"I've been well," he answered, grin on his face. "School's school, but I am here, and that makes everything a little bit better. How's teaching?"

In response to that question, Reno just wrinkled his nose a little.

"Some of the students call me 'Professor Reno,'" he confided. "Makes me feel friggin' old, yo. Which is sad, considerin'."

He had a student in his first term teaching who was older than he was, after all.

"Other than that, though? It ain't half bad."

"I could never laugh at someone as cute as you," Jessica said. Fandom was being cruel to her tonight when she was trying to be good.

"I always like when bartenders say things like that," Romeo flirted lightly. "I'll have the drink, then, and thank you."

Martini, right, but not with an apple instead of an olive, Jessica. Fortunately, she remembered seeing the recipe and managed to mix the drink with the correct ingredients. "Here you go," she said. "First time I made somethin' like that, so I hope you like it."

Mat had been drinking steadily since about three, which meant that we was out of stuff in his mini-bar.

Venue change!

"Ale please," he said with a slightly bleary smile for the pretty girl he didn't recognize.

Cute boys made it so much harder not to think of drinking blood.

"Sure!" she said, pouring a glass and sliding it to him. "You one of those graduate students? I ain't never seen you in here before."

"Finished up my schooling last spring," Mat said in what would be a British accent if he wasn't from a completely made-up world. "It's my first time back since then." He held his glass out to her in a little salute. "I see the scenery has improved."

"That's nice of you to say," Jessica beamed. "I'm Jessica." Thank god Mat was wearing a scarf so she couldn't stare at his neck.

Hayley sadly had worked all day, so only was able to make it to the island by the evening.

She plopped down in a seat and then tilted her head.

"I don't remember you," she said to Jessica, curious. "You're new, I hope?"

"Hayley!" Leda practically squealed when she spotted her friend.

For all intents and purposes, Hayley looked like any other recently post-high school teen. She gave Jessica a smile. "I just wanted to make sure I hadn't forgot anyone. That would've been awful. But you got a face I'd remember."
