The Park, Friday Morning

It was a glorious fall day, so Didi walked into town to get a latte at the Perk then took it and a few stale croissants cadged out of the girl behind the counter to the park.

She took a seat on one of the benches by the pond and started tossing out crumbs by the scant palmful, trying to stretch the time she could spend doing this. The ducks squabbled over the crumbs, but they were ducks. Squabbling was part of their job.

[OOC: Open park post, of course!]

Hayley wandered over and watched Didi with a little smile on her face.

"Awful nice of you to do that," she said.

"Oh, I'm just great," Hayley said. "Lucky for these ducks there's not really any hunters around, right?"

"I'd love to," Hayley said, taking the croissant third. Her happy expression didn't even flicker as she slightly changed topic of conversation.

"Thanks, by the way. For what you said this weekend."

"...yeah," Hayley said. "It went better than I thought."

And then Castiel was there, standing a little ways behind the bench. He frowned.

"I was unaware the ducks required feeding."

"A non-obligatory kindness, then." Castiel nodded. "Hello, Didi."

And that was the second time this week that someone had talked about "getting attached" to someone.

"I assume you mean that metaphorically."

"I imagine one wouldn't like to be under a hat, no." He tilted his head. "So you have had ducks . . . become attached to you, before?"

Having taken a long morning walk - which he didn't necessarily need, as yesterday had involved adventuring in the preserve with Alice - Leto passed through the park. He had made it at habit to occasionally check on the flamingos, but noticing Didi, he smiled at her.

"Good morning," he said.

"Well enough," he said, his gaze on the ducks diving at the crumbs. "So far. It is still early. And you?" He turned his head to look at Didi.

"It wasn't my intention to sound pessimistic," he replied. "More a reflection on how I don't know what will happen today." He smiled to himself. "Why do you assume that refraining from making any judgement on this day means I anticipate something bad to happen rather than something good?"

"Do you consider yourself a pessimist?" he asked lightly. "And I will be content with just a good day. Most of my days here are."

As Tim walked by, his mind a million miles away, he didn't at first notice the young woman who did not really resemble the Death he had met in college.

He also didn't at first notice the ducks, until an angry quacking brought him back to the present.

"Woah! Sorry." He jumped back, into a pile of duck droppings.
