Tino was not in a good mood when Adrian got in to work today, and Adrian knew exactly why.

"No one was going to believe you were the boss here for long," Adrian pointed out as he made himself a drink.

Tino just glared and walked off to the back room. Ooh, Adrian might be on his own today.

Friendly neighborhood Moroi had been known to serve this one before. Sort of made her special. Effy said she'd have to find him again, and guess what? Looks like she had.

"What happened to your backup?"

He was definitely not disappointed to see this one back. "I think he's a little mad at me for catching him in a lie. He'll get over it," he replied. "This might mean I have to serve you without thinking it over."

"You actually considered not serving me?" At the time it hadn't seemed like he'd needed much thinking time on that. Or, she liked to think it hadn't. It was good for her ego.

"I might have for a second," he said, but it was done with the sort of smirk that said right there he was entirely messing with her.

"Unless you want me coming back there and making my own." Which she wouldn't really have a problem with, if she was honest, even if it was technically his job.

Kris was looking for something to do that didn't involve sitting around her apartment bored to tears. The bar would do. "Can I get a beer, please?"

That was probably simple enough to serve.

"You're wonderful for keeping it simple," Adrian said with a smile, getting one for her and sliding it over.

"No problem," Kris said, taking the bottle. "So are you filling in for another bartender or something?"

"No, this is my regular shift. My trusty sidekick decided he had better things to do tonight," he said smoothly. "Adrian Ivashov."

"Kris Furillo," she replied, smiling slightly. "Nice to meet you. I could become a regular on Mondays if that'll help with the keeping things simple."

"You won't get any argument from me," he grinned. What, she was cute. "It would make up for you not having been a regular on Mondays until now..."

"Guess I'll have to clear my Monday schedules then," Kris said. Not that she had anything better to do. "How long have you been in town?"

"Hey," Kris greeted in response. "I've got a real job, a place to stay, and now I have alcohol. Can't complain. How are you?"

"I'm about the same," said Dani. "My business is secure, I've picked up a renter so I can start paying off my mortgage, and I have a glass of wine. There's not much else I could ask for, except maybe a boyfriend."

"I think I'm gonna try the being single thing for awhile. Less complicated that way," Kris said. "I would have offered to be a renter, but..."

She knew exactly how well that would end.

Dani chuckled. "Can you imagine the two of us living under one roof? It could have been a recipe for disaster," she said. "My last relationship didn't end so well. I hooked up with him, brought him in as a business partner, and he was about to move in with me until he met my dad."
