caritas | saturday night | september 5

Alex wasn't really feeling staying in his room tonight but he wasn't feeling like going to the mainland to find something to do. So, he took himself down to Caritas, expecting to find someone to serve him a shitload of drinks so he could get drunk and pass out somewhere.

Of course, when he got to Caritas, the only person there was that weird quiet guy and he was busy glaring at one of the zombies in the band. That zombie was glaring back. After a minute, Alex figured out they were having a damn staring contest and just decided to make himself at home behind the bar.

Free drinks for him tonight. Worked for him.

Effy did not have the urge to talk to Alex. Which of course meant her mun the universe was going to force it on her. In fact, distraction from him right about now would've been a good thing in her book.

But, having walked in already, she also wasn't going to turn around and leave just because he was there, (even if she did have cutesy fucking glitter in her hair from the walk over). That would be stupid. Better to get things like this out of the way.

"Not used to seeing you back there," she remarked as she slid onto a stool at the bar.

"There was no one here when I came in," he said, glancing up from the drink he'd poured for himself, eyes going from the glitter in her hair to her.

He hadn't expected to see her and, now that he was, he had to steel himself against all those things that made his stomach tighten up uncomfortably.

"The quiet guy's no help," he said, nodding towards Tino. "Want a drink?"

He figured, if he was going to be behind the bar, he had to act like a bartender.

"It is what I came here for," she said, and slanted a glance in Tino's direction. The weirdo. A moment later she went back to Alex. "Hope you know how to make a London Killer (http://www.cocktailmaking.co.uk/displaycocktail.php/2177-london-killer)."

Testing him for her own entertainment? A little. It was a bad habit. She'd probably settle for whatever he gave her, provided it had alcohol in.

He was not surprised by her penchant for toying with him using things he was certain she knew he didn't know.

"What, you didn't come in just to see me?" he asked sarcastically, pushing away from the bar and trying to dig out some fucking instructions on drink making. He had no clue what the hell a London Killer was. "Oh darn."

"I didn't know you were here," she pointed out. "Never know, I might've stopped by to bother you if I had." Any other week but this one she might've, anyway.

"Good thing I'm not dependent on your company then," he said, one corner of his mouth lifting into something like a smile before he reached for a glass and settled it on the bar. "I'm just a side benefit of your visit, then?"

There had to be some kind of alcohol in the damn drink so he found himself playing 'eeny-meenie-miny-moe' in his head with the different types of alcohol behind the bar.

Effy inclined her head in a nod as she watched his deliberations. "Aren't I lucky? Get to see your drink mixing skills in action."

"You're always lucky when you get to see me," he said, contemplating his next move. He could have asked her but then she'd get smug satisfaction out of getting asked.

So, he went with option B. He reached for the bottle of alcohol that was closest to him. It happened to be whiskey and he just filled half the glass with it before he dropped the glass in front of her.

"There," he said and glared, daring her to call him out on that. "It'll get you drunk if that's what you're aiming for."

"... Sounds good," she decided. Effy wasn't as fussy as all that, and bright enough to let something go when it was accompanied by a glare like that. His customer service needed work.

"This mean drinks are on you tonight?" She was kidding! Mostly.

"For you?" He pretended to think about while he downed half his own drink. "No. I'm not feeling that generous tonight. And I'm expecting a big fat fucking tip too."

It was his turn to mostly kid!

"I am giving you service with a smile." He was not.

Mina sat in the back room, away from the noise of the bar. Instead, she had usurped control of the TV and ended up on a movie about Dracula (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112896/) that seemed rather... disturbing.

She could not help but watch it, in mildly amused horror.

Drake had decided to check out Caritas and found himself in the back room as well. "Love at First Bite was much better," he said, coming up behind Mina. He mimicked a Hollywood Transylvania accent. "'Children of the night, shut up!'"
