Dite's Decadent Delights, Monday Afternoon
After Dinah's last phone call, the last thing that Karla had felt like doing was going into work. But it was that or stay in her room all day and look at pictures, so several hours after her shift was supposed to have begun, Karla dragged herself into the store.
Only to be confronted by a stack of heavy cardboard boxes, taller than she was. The address on all of the boxes were for a store Karla'd never heard of, but the scrawled note on the inventory sheet said, Had enough trouble getting them over the causeway. They're staying!. Okaaaaay?
Inside the boxes were rows and rows of snow globes. These were definitely not for 'Dite's shop. Rather than anything naughty or even slightly risqué, they featured warm and friendly holiday decorations with such inspiring messages as The Holidays Are a Time for Friends and Family! and Remembering You Fondly This Holiday Season! After her morning--after her week--such cutesy messages of friendship and remembrance hurt.
Karla hadn't realized she was smashing one until it was hurtling through the air and slamming onto the floor of the shop, spraying glass and sparkles and fake snow everywhere. And? It felt good. She slammed another. And then another. And another and another and another still, flinging snow globes until her arm hurt.
This was kind of therapeutic.
Soon, there was a sign in the window: ANGRY AT THE WORLD? OR THE LACK OF IT? COME WORK THROUGH YOUR ISSUES WITH WANTON DESTRUCTION! 3 GLOBES FOR A DOLLAR.
[BEWARE OF BROKEN GLASS. DUH.]

Talk to Karla
Re: Talk to Karla
"I have come to destroy the globe."
Re: Talk to Karla
As it was, she simply handed over three snowglobes and gestured to the open area where shelving units had once been. "Please, enjoy."
She'd get her dollar later. The money wasn't really the point.

She closed her eyes, trying to compose herself. "Dinah's gone. I was on the phone with her. Right before the end."
Of their own accord, two of the snowglobes on the counter shattered, spewing their contents on the floor.
Re: Talk to Karla
And yet, he hadn't seen her name checked into the bulletin board - the returned part, at least - and he'd thought that if she didn't come soon she might not make it... "How did she sound?"

Repeatedly.
Which drew her attention to the sign. Her resources might be limited in Fandom thanks to a sudden evacuation do to world disappearing, but Isabel was pretty sure she could spare a dollar.
"Hello?"
Re: Talk to Karla
"Hi." Karla recognized Isabel from the Reserves and tried to offer her a smile. It wasn't her best attempt. "I promise, 'Dite's doesn't usually look like this."
Re: Talk to Karla
"I was going to say. Somehow this isn't what Decadent Delights brings to mind," Isabel replied with a small smile. "But this looks to be a bit more therapeutic given what's going on."

Merlin, you didn't need to breathe, did you? Because the hug Karla was planning didn't allow for paltry things like that.

Thankfully she had money in her pocket, because money meant breaking things. Yay, breaking things!
"Start me with three," she said to Karla, digging a dollar out of her pocket.

She walked to town and stepped into the store, mindful of the broken glass. "Please do not hurt yourself," she said.

She was guessing Raven already did.
