Zuko entered the office (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1494454.html?thread=90578102#t90578102) as Aly held open the door, hoping Mel really had a good reason for making them walk all this way. He was trying not to think too much about what it meant to ask Katara to do this, but she still seemed a better option than trying the clinic.

Katara looked up and immediately dropped the laser pointer on the counter as she hurried over to Zuko, only seeing the blood and barely noticing the teacher behind him. "Zuko! What did you do?"

"Didn't sit down," he decided, not sure what else to say. He grimaced, too aware of the teacher behind him.

Aly raised an eyebrow, making another note to ask Trick exactly what had happened in that office. She waited by the door, watching the girl drag Zuko into the post office, but not wanting to leave until he was okay.

Katara frowned. "You got hurt because you didn't sit down?" She dragged him back to the chairs by the counter. "Who was it?" She sounded fierce now. "And you'd better sit this time so I can heal you."

He wasn't arguing, he hadn't stopped since he'd gone into the office. He sagged into the chair. "Umbridge," he replied, glancing briefly at Aly. "She's insane."

"The principal?" Katara asked, sounding horrified. "She cut you?" Her hands were gentle as she tried to carefully pull away the bloody shirt from his wound. Finally she gave up and grabbed a pair of scissor from the counter. "I have to see it, okay?" she said before she started to very carefully cut down from the collar.

Zuko blinked. "You're not really waiting for me to agree," he pointed out.

"I was telling you what I was doing not asking for permission," Katara informed him. The cutting was quickly done and she gently pulled the fabric aside, wincing at the extent and deepness of the cut.

"If you say so," he muttered by lack of anything better to say. His hands fisted on his knees as he glanced down at the cut. No wonder it hurt.

Katara stared at it, too angry and worried and amazed that the principal had hurt him to even scold Zuko for getting hurt in the first place. She reached to her waterskin to pull a flow of water out. Letting it spin over her hand, she glanced back up to meet Zuko's eyes. "Ready then?"

Drawing a breath, Zuko nodded and glanced down, his fingers clenching.

She drew in a breath and concentrated on the qi in the water, drawing it in and focusing until the water glowed bright white. She raised her hand to skim over his chest, frowning intensely as she concentrated on healing. It took longer than it usually did, and while the wound closed, it didn't heal completely, still looking red and tender.

Katara dropped her hand and caught her breath, frowning. She eyed the slice, immediately raising her hand back and trying to heal again.

It felt different than the healing she'd done to him before too, but he tried to sit as still as possible. The pain dulled after a moment, however, becoming less insistant and he could breath easier again.

She pulled her hand back again after trying to heal him more. "I think...I don't know. That's all I can do," she said, sounding a bit frustrated. Her finger reached out to very gently trace the line of the cut. "It's closed though. It looks like it'll heal on its own from here, I guess."

"It will do," he replied, sitting perfectly still as he was surprised by the touch.

Katara nodded. "Don't put too much strain on it," she ordered, stepping away from him. "And make sure that if you manage to tear it open to come find me, okay?"

Mel landed on Zuko's shoulder and gave Katara a squawk, which might have been a mixture of "Thanks" and "Careful how you touch my not!boyfriend!"

Zuko frowned a little, having no clue what Mel was saying. He idly reached up, scratching her head before pulling his shirt straight, trying to close it up a little. "It won't," he said and hesitated for another instant. "Thank you."

Katara blinked at the bird but got the message clearly enough and took more than a few steps back. "You're welcome," she said quietly. "It was no problem."

Zuko got to his feet carefully, feeling light headed. He was already turning away when he glanced over his shoulder at Katara. "Stay away from Umbridge."

Her eyes narrowed and her arms automatically crossed in front of her. "She's awful," Katara replied, noncommittally.

He stopped, not quite meeting her eyes but he was frowning. "And waterbenders are smarter than us firebenders, right?"

Katara smirked. "So it took a huge injury to get you to finally admit it?"

He scowled. "Just be careful," he said, fully turning his back on her and heading towards Aly.

"You too," Katara said softly, her eyes following Zuko.

Aly watched the interaction with a bit of a raised eyebrow then felt herself relax when she realised that the girl was healing Zuko. It was an interesting talent with the water. Kyprioth would probably approve.

She gave Katara a small nod and then looked back at Zuko.

"No clinic," he told her stubbornly, pretending there had been nothing strange about that interaction.

Aly lifted her palms. "Looks like it's taken care of to me," she said, for an instant considering asking Katara's assistance for her own injury but not wanting to make the student overextend herself.

"Yes," he agreed and fell silent for an instant. "She needs to go."

Aly nodded. "She is going. Soon."

"I can set the office on fire," he offered.

"I'll keep that in mind," Aly said with a serious nod. "Trust me, it's on my list of advantages we have."

"It'd only take a minute," Zuko said, reaching out to open the door.

Only would take a minute for her to retaliate too and kill Zuko was Aly's concern. "Please hold off for now," she said. "And stay away from her too. I'll be in contact if it's needed."

He glanced sideways at Aly, but nodded after a while.

"Thank you," Aly nodded in reply, content to walk back up to the school in silence.

Who doesn't care about a laser pointer at all.

...I don't have a good way to continue this theme.
