Katara had snuck out of her room very, very early.  Before the sun came up even, it was so early.  She liked the moon better than the sun anyway.  The sun was boring and all burny.

It felt like a long, long walk down to the town, but Katara was Water Tribe and there wasn't even any snow so she wasn't going to complain a bit.  She wasn't whiny like the Fire Nation.   Besides in town there was the bakery.  And Katara had money in her pocket that she'd been saving a long, long time for this.  Now if only she could decide what she wanted.

Zuko liked pastries. He liked them a lot. Especially with hot cocoa and he stormed into the shop, heading straight over to the counter to demand a breakfast fit for a prince.

Which explained why he ended up with a large plate that he had to carefully balance as he looked around for a table. Or just a seat beside another one. Sure, Katara had water tribe cooties, but she didn't smell like Mel and Sokka. "Can I sit here?"

"Dunno," Katara said with a bright, bright grin for Zuko. "Can you?"

Zuko frowned, wondering if that was a trick question. "Why wouldn't I?"

"Well you asked," Katara explained, taking a bite of her donut and getting powdered sugar all down her front.

Zuko gave her a confused look and deciding that was a yes - seriously, girls were weird - he started to sit down in the chair. His tray tilted precariously at the movement, threatening to have everything fall down and Zuko stopped, one leg on his chair, the other beside it. "Oh-oh."

She burst into giggles. "I'll help you if I can have a bite of what you got."

A tiny shift and his hot cocoa slid further to the edge of his tray. Zuko's eyes widened and he nodded quickly. "Okay. Please."

Katara giggled more and grabbed the hot chocolate of the tray. "I'm SAVING it!" She set it carefully down, just a little bit slopping over the sides, then grabbed the pastries. "Oooh, red ones.

"And chocolate!" Zuko tried to stay still. "Hurry up!!"

"I'm getting it!" she argued, accidentally putting her fingers in the chocolate as she helped. "There! You're - You're demandthing."

"Don't want to drop it!" Zuko let out a breath and slid the empty tray on the table as he slid into his chair. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, Zuko," Katara said properly.

Sokka wanted doughnuts. CHOCOLATE Doughnuts. And he was totally allowed, 'cause he said so.

"Katara HI!!! HI HI!!! ZUKO HI HI!!! Are you here to play hide and seek in the pudding?!?!?!?"

"Sokka!" Katara bounced up and down. "Where's the pudding?"

Sokka shrugged. "I dunno maybe Romeo has it but Mel 'n me are gonna throw it at ZUUUUUKO!!!"

"Nuh uh!" Katara said, crossing her arms. "That's mean!"

"Mean!" Zuko agreed loudly. "And Katara says that I don't smell!"

"Zuko's mean!!!" Sokka protested. "He's the EMENY! That's why I gotsta play with him 'n have fun!"

Katara crossed her arms. "That doesn't make ANY SENSE."

"IT DOESN'T HAVE TO!!!" Sokka shouted.

"YES! IT DOES!" she shouted back. "AND YOU AND MEL ARE SITTING IN A TREE!"

Sokka put his hands on his hips. "Are NOT! I'm in a STORE eatin' DOUGHNUTS. An' our cooties are totally better'n your cooties. Our cooties c'n kick your cooties's BUTTS."
