Wonka's Sweets Shoppe, Wednesday

Today's centerpiece at Wonka's was a great big display of bags of Pihlaja marmalade candy. Three guesses as to why Ezra decided that particular fruit of the last international shipment was the best one and deserved to be promoted the hardest.

(It was the fox face on the bag.)

(He wasn't very subtle.)

Wonka's was open and there was a cheerful-enough fox manning the counter, ready to sell treats.

"Hey, look," Dante called as he wandered on in. "A fox in a candy shop."

Okay, he hadn't known Ezra worked here; he needed distraction from nicotine withdrawal, was all.

"The best there is," Ezra replied easily. He'd gotten back to his usual easygoing air over time, more or less. "And selling fox candy, to boot."

"Trying to lure hot people back into your evil fox lair?" Dante joked. He looked around, spying some lollipops not far away and beelining for it.

Seriously needed distraction from the smoke withdrawal, dear gods.

"Please," Ezra scoffed. "As if I need to try."

"You try a little bit," Dante said, pausing to snag a bunch of Chupa Chups. "Feeling kind of an oral fixation today."

"Oh?"

Ezra sounded amused, in his own lazy and kind of noncommittal kind of way.

"Well, you've come to the right place."

"Thought so," Dante said, taking his newly-acquired loot and casually slapping it onto the counter. "So how did you wind up here?"

Ezra shrugged as he rung up Dante's purchase. "The manager is very attractive."

Probably wasn't the reason, but might as well have been.

Probably wasn't, yeah, but considering Dante's recent experiences with the shit Ezra hid, he didn't exactly think this one was a hill worth dying on.

"Good reason," he said instead, sliding the wallet - the one he'd gotten from Ezra after Ezra had gone on a wallet liberation spree, in fact - out of his pocket to get a couple of bills. "Better than 'I was bored'."

Which was half of Dante's reason for taking his job.

"It's that, too." Honestly, there wasn't really a reason. Ezra had such few reasons for most things.

He nodded at the Chupa Chups and put on his best customer service smile. "Anything else I can interest you in today, kind sir, or will this be all?"

"I don't know. Can I take one of those foxes home with me?" Dante said, matching Ezra's smile with a grin.

"Depends on which one."

Occasionally even Ezra had to play coy.

"The pretty one?" Dante offered.

He could play that game, too. Sorta.

Ezra tsked. "I don't know if you can afford the pretty one."

"I didn't know the prices were shooting up that fast," Dante said, amused. "How bad is the score?"

"It's pretty bad." Said oh so earnestly. Which always looked fake on Ezra. He wasn't built for earnest. "Might be the most expensive thing in the store."

"Well, I'm kinda low on cash," Dante mused. "You guys take favors?"

"Depends on the favor."

Of course.

"A nice one," Dante offered, smirking. Okay, he hadn't actually come here looking to talk Ezra into having some fun, but eh, plans, who needed those? "I could get on my knees and beg."
