Thursday night
CJ writes an email to her dad:
Well, Dad, I'm settled in to my new place. My neighbor and I are planning to have cocktails and get to know each other better. She teaches at the school too.
My classes are going well, I wasn't sure I could do this teacher thing, but it's turning out ok.. My students seem a little preoccupied with being, well, high school students, but I suppose that's to be expected.
I'm teaching speech Dad. I don't know if you remember that. It comes so naturally to me, after so many years working in public relations.
Danny left to cover the war and we went and had drinks and said our goodbyes. I don't think he's coming back to me, if he comes back at all. I think that the distance between here and DC, or here and the middle east just isn't going to do it for us. It's ok though, we've been growing apart for some time. You know, he never quite got over me keeping so many of the President's secrets.
Dad, I've met a new man. He's really interesting. He's a doctor. I think. He teaches here at the school. I know I've always said that work is work and my private life is my private life, but we both know how much luck I've had with that, so maybe I'll bend my own rules just this once. He makes me feel like, well, like one of my students I guess. I haven't felt so awkward since I was 16 and 2 feet taller than everyone else in my class. Remember when I went to prom with Mike Dombrowski? Remember how they made me sit in a chair for the pictures and he stood behind me, otherwise he would have only come to my shoulder?
Do you remember that, Dad?
I miss you Dad, and I love you. I'll email you more often, and try to come see you when I can. Are the boys coming to visit? Have you seen Hogan lately? She's doing really well in school I understand.
I'll write you again soon.
Love, Claudia Jean
