Maia sits in the corner of the coffee shop fingering her crucifix that equalsmcsquared had given her. Glancing around the room Maia looks for an interesting person to read

*Aziraphale walks into the coffee house, orders a cup of tea and a slice of cake, and looks around to see who else is there. Spotting Maia, but not wanting to bother her if she doesn't want bothering, he simply gives her a pleasant smile.*

Maia returns the smile and nods to welcome the stranger to her table.

*Aziraphale walks over and takes a seat at Maia's table.*

"Good day. I hope you're doing well." *gives a pleasant smile* "I'm Mr. Phale. I run the rare books shop here in town."

*Maia smiles knowingly* I'm Maia, its a pleasure to meet you Mr. Phale. I am doing very well *still fingering her necklace* very well indeed. How are you this lovely evening?

*Aziraphale gives Maia a slightly uncertain look*

"Oh, well enough I suppose. We do seem to be having rather a quiet evening, for once. Not that I would ever complain about the quiet." *smiles, hopefully in a convincing way*

*notices Maia playing with the crucifix*

"I do hope that you don't find me rude for asking, but is there anything the matter? You seem to be a bit bothered by something."

*Maia blinks in surprise at Mr. Phale*

No, just lost in a thought, and this *indicating the necklace* is from a dear friend to keep me safe. You own the bookstore?

"Yes, the one across from the park. I specialize in rare editions really, especially first editions. First editions are my passion. I'm really a collector." *stops, realizing that he's gone off rambling about his book collection*

"You're a student at the school."

Yes. Taking a history class actually. You might have some texts that I find interesting. *leans over* I dont mind if you talk about your books either. *looks at him* So in your first editions that you prize so greatly, what are you seeking? *Maia pauses and then smiles* are you seeking something that was lost?

Well, I do hope you will come by and see. I've brought in a number of new selections recently. Oh! And I've bought a cash register.

*puzzled frown at Maia's last question*

I... *stops as he realizes that he was going to say he hadn't lost anything, then realizes that he had, he just hadn't thought to be looking for it*

*Maia smiles and takes a sip of her coffee then leans forward*

"What did you lose?"

*Aziraphale peers very closely at Maia*

I-- I'm not certain I should be talking about it. No offense to you, of course, it's only that I don't think that...I should be...talking about it. *slumps a bit, missing Crowley very much*

Really, perhaps you'd like to tell me why your friend felt the need to give you a crucifix. It isn't a usual sort of gift to get.

*smiles* No offense at all, just thought I would make conversation out of an obvious area of trouble throughout your time here. She wants to keep me safe from a vampire actually. He was uh, leaving signs of affection on my door so to speak, kinda creeped me out a little bit. Creeped her out as well so she gave it to me.

*Aziraphale sits up straighter, as this is an area he can talk about*

Are there vampires in the school? I was unaware of that. Are you having trouble from them?

*Aziraphale realizes that he isn't going to get her off the subject, which is BAD because he shouldn't be talking to her about it, he doesn't even like talking to Crowley about it, and he's a little ashamed of himself for wanting to talk about it. And he's worried, that what he tells Maia might upset her too much for her to handle. He thinks she might be quite fragile inside.*

Maia, are you certain -- absolutely certain -- that you want to know?

Maia tightens her fists on the table and then slowly nods.

*Aziraphale looks a little sad, because he's sure he shouldn't do this. But he doesn't know how to get out of it now. He speaks very quietly.*

Most in these times call her Eve.

*Maia's breath catches in her throat and she whispers* "Eve, Eve of the Garden you mean. Mr. Phale *pauses* You, you Eve??? *Maia looks around wildly, she knows he is not lying and at this moment, Maia is terrified she's just unleashed something very bad into her reality*

*Aziraphale takes Maia's hand, directing a subtle comforting sense toward her in the hopes of calming her without scaring her.*

Please, Maia, I didn't mean to scare you. *pauses* What do you think I am?

Maia blinks up at Mr. Phale amazed at the sense of peace she feels

"I- for a moment I thought you were a demon. I *pauses* I dont know a demon who makes me feel at peace though." Maia leaning forward cautiously "are you an angel Mr. Phale?"

*Aziraphale is relieved that Maia seems less upset. He pats her hand lightly, and looks carefully at her for a moment.*

*Then he nods.*

"I-I dont understand, if.. if you gave her the sword, then... why didnt she go back into the garden. Sorry, my stories are a little rusty, Sunday school was long ago for me." *tilts her head* "I've heard though that angels walk the earth, but.. your..why do you walk the earth?"

*Aziraphale smiles gently at Maia and settles more comfortably in the chair.*

She didn't go back into the garden because they weren't allowed. They were sent away, for disobedience. I... *takes a breath* I was sent to guard the gate, so that no one could get back in. *The last is spoken a little ashamedly, as if he had done something wrong.*

Some angels do walk the earth -- some demons too. We watch, and we... *Aziraphale stops.*

Maia straightens up "You what Aziraphale?" Maia smiles finally able to say the Angels name now. "Your friends with one" Maia frowns as though trying to collect a thought "Your friends with a demon?"
