Chaucer's, Wednesday, Early Evening
Geoff is lying on his back on a bench in front of his business, apparently talking to himself and occasionally writing something in a shabby journal. Once in a while, he looks up and down the street, as if he's hoping to see someone.

Oh Geoff, thank God you're here. I've had the most terrble day. I don't think Phoebe's talking to me and-and my friend Maia's *she pauses a second trying to work out exactly what to tell him* she's been really ill.
*She bursts into tears*

Paige, what's happened?! Do your friends need help? Is there something I can do?
*He looks around, as if expecting to see Phoebe and Maia in some kind of danger.*
no subject
No there's nothing you can do, Maia-Maia's ok now I think, just angry at Phoebe. And because I went off to look after her I don't think Phoebe's talking to me. It's all so messed up. I don't know what to do

Here, Paige, drink this. *He sits on his heels next to Paige's chair.*
Tell me what happened. Did something happen to Phoebe, did she do something to upset you or Maia? Where any of you hurt? *looks Paige over with concern*
no subject
*she takes his hand* No one got hurt, Maia just seems to think Phoebe's boyfriend evil and well she told her this, only today they were in study hall together and Maia just lost it, kept going on about how she couldn't trust Phoebe and if I stayed there with them then she couldn't trust me either.
*she looks at Geoff* I had to go with her, she was in a mess, but now I think Phoebe might think I've taken Maia's side *she pauses* which I haven't

Do you think Maia says that about Phoebe's boyfriend because Maia knows something Phoebe doesn't, or is it just that Maia doesn't like him? If he's dangerous, Phoebe should be told about it, but if it's just personal then -- I hate to say it, but then it isn't any of Maia's concern.
And as for what Phoebe thinks, you can straighten that out by talking to her, telling her why you went with Maia.

What is it that makes Maia dislike Phoebe's... boyfriend? ...so much?

*stands up and walks around the room, becoming slightly agitated*
Has he tried to hurt any of you, Paige?

*Paige takes a deep breath* I think I know what I'm gonna do. I mean I don't know for sure Maia's right do I? Cole seems ok generally

*stops walking about for a moment and smiles at Paige*
I mean, for all you know your friends might think I'm evil. *pauses* Except that's not a very good example, because I'm not evil and your friends would be wrong about me. If they thought I was evil.
So, maybe it would be a good idea if you found out a little more about Cole before deciding if he's evil.
*The wind having been now let out of his sails, Geoff sits down.*

*She takes a deep breath and looks down at the floor, she speaks quietly partly hoping Geoff won't hear her and stop asking questions* Maia says she can see things, that's why she thinks Cole's evil.
*Paige starts shaking he's going to kick me out*

Your friend Maia has the sight?!

Paige, sweet, it's all right. I don't think it's anything to be frightened of. There are plenty of people who've been given the sight. *Pauses as he tries to think of someone besides the Prophet Ezra, who wrote like he was smoking mushrooms.* I don't know Maia yet, but I'm sure if you think enough of her to be concerned about her, then she's a perfectly good person. It's probably just as hard for her to have the sight as it is for her friends to understand it.

I shouldn't be burdening you with this Geoff, I'm sorry *She hugs him*
