Shooting Range, Thursday Afternoon
Looking incredibly nervous (but still cute), Angela is loitering near the entrance to the shooting range. She visibly starts every time a gun goes off within earshot -- which is every five seconds, so she's jumpy a lot.
She seems to be waiting for someone.

He notices Angela flinch when a gun shot goes off. He gives her a reassuring smile.
"You look nice today."
[OOC: Sorry. I was watching the Dorms section.]

"Thanks. I think I've owned these jeans since I was, like, 12."
Marty, on the other hand, genuinely does look nice, she thinks.
Deep breath.
"So how do we start?"
[OOC: No worries.]

By wondering how the heck I ended up having a chicken for a pet"We'll start with the basics."
Marty guides her into the shooting range and to his weapons locker, which is crammed with firearms. He takes out a .22 caliber Beretta automatic pistol, checks to make sure the clip and chamber is empty and offers it to Angela.
"This... is a gun."

That's what you get by going to the cafeteria, doofus. At least it's a cute chicken.Hesitantly, Angela prods at the weapon with one forefinger. The metal is cool, and, when she (grimacing) takes it from Marty, surprisingly heavy.
Angela holds it awkwardly in her right hand, pointing the barrel at the ground.

Marty reaches over and gently corrects her grip on her right hand.
"You'll want to hold it like that. How's that feel?"
no subject
"What would you use a gun like this for?"

Shooting targets in the head at close rangeMarty gives Angela a haunted look and moves her in front of the targets. He points to the safety on the gun.
"This is the safety on the gun. When you are ready to shoot at your target, you'll need to turn it off like this." Marty demonstrates for Angela.
"You do it now, so you can see how it feels."
no subject
With her thumb, she turns off the safety.
"Okay. And now I guess I point it at the target?"
no subject
Marty motions her to point out target range and pull the trigger.
no subject
She's almost disappointed that nothing happens, just a little *click* sound.
"Is that it?" she asks. "I mean, does it feel really different if there's a bullet in there?"
no subject
"Mentally? Yeah. I just wanted you to understand how it felt to pull the trigger. Let's show you how to load it."
Marty pulls out a couple of magazines and some ammo and walks Angela through the step by step process of loading and unloading the ammo from the gun, including loading the magazine clips and priming the weapon. He has her practice a couple of times and then has her unload everything from the gun and the clip.
"Okay... now go ahead and load the gun on your own this time."
no subject
She forgets a few steps and has to look to Marty for guidance, which he gives with an odd half-smile on his face. Finally, the magazine clicks into place.
"I think this is it," she says. "Please take a look?"
no subject
"You did it right."
Marty puts on some safety glasses and some ear protection around his neck like they were stereo headphones. He gives Angela a set as well and puts up a human target form for her to shoot at.
"Now we get to aiming. The trick to aiming is that you want to aim the gun a little lower than your target point. When you fire the gun, it's going to kick in your hand and move up and back. Aiming a little lower will compensate for that."
Marty moves Angela into the stall for shooting and pulls out one of his glocks.
"When I take aim, I usually follow the same process over and over again."
Marty assumes the firing position and takes aim at the target.
"Aim"
Marty takes a deep breath.
"Breathe."
Marty pulls the trigger and fires the gun.
"Shoot."
Marty checks the target and sees that he was dead on.
"Your turn. Do what I just did and aim for the head of the target."
no subject
Couldn't we shoot at something not so ... human-shaped? Like, a spider or something? I can kill a spider., she thinks.
She copies Marty's stance.
"Breathe, aim, fire," she mutters to herself.
She breathes, she aims -- and she pulls the trigger. Even though she was warned, the gun's kick in her hand surprises her. The bullet hits the wall, just above the left shoulder of the silhouette. "That would have scared him, right?" she says, and then tries again.
Breathe. Aim. Fire.
That bullet hits the target's right knee, and Angela starts to giggle from nervousness. She points the gun at the ground until she can catch her breath again.
no subject
because the .22 bullet will bounce around in his head and liquify the target's brain... Well it's just better.""Remember. Aim. Breathe. Fire. If you take a breath, it will help center yourself."
no subject
It isn't quite a dead-center hit, but it's close enough.
"Wow," Angela says, half-elated and half-disgusted. "I made that guy pretty dead."
no subject
Marty puts his hand on Angela's shoulder.
"Try it again."
no subject
She turns around to face Marty, gun pointed more or less at the ground. "It's not work-"
And then there's a noise to her right; half-involuntariy, she jumps and pulls the trigger on the gun.
Marty lets out a yelp of pain.
no subject
Yep. Right on the butt.
He grimaces and looks at Angela.
"Maybe now's a good time to review gun safety."
no subject
"I'm taking you to the clinic. We can review gun safety on our way there."
