Arriving at the Perkolator early as usual, Shane orders herself a double-shot of Black Death and takes a seat at one of the tables by the window. She takes a sip, glad that she's found something almost as strong as what she used to drink at the Planet in West Hollywood, and places a beautifully bound book - Theodora, Empress of Byzantium (a present from Mr. Phale) - she's brought with her up on the table.
Her slender fingers turn the pages and occasionally she winces - her knuckles are bandaged, though there are several small cuts and scrapes peeking out from beneath the bandages - but her eyes remain fixed on the page. Her plum-colored aviators hide her eyes as she tries to find answers between the fragile pages.
