Rare Books Shop, Very Early Monday Morning

The sign on the front of the rare book shop now reads:

The Proprietor has been called out of town. All customers in search
of books should address their needs to [livejournal.com profile] oatmanspatient.

Marty unlocks the door to Phale's store and takes a look around. For some reason there is still a hot pot of tea and a plate of cookies sitting by the comfortable chairs. He'd probably question it more if this whole town and school wasn't one big lump of weirdness.

He's still confused why Phale left him a key and asked him to look after the store while he was gone. He knew Angela had talked to him briefly but-

Marty shakes his head. No reason to look a gift horse in the mouth. He finds and takes out the inventory list Phale has of all his books and begins to review him for his current "research project".

[OOC: If you need anything from Phale's, feel free to check with me here or leave me a VM.]

Kiki comes in, smiles at [livejournal.com profile] oatmanspatient, and takes a cup of tea and a cooky.

"Hi," she says. "I really really need a book. Pretty much any book, as long as it's good. Most of my classes don't meet or have homework, so I just spend study hall sitting around, and I need something to pass the time. I was hoping [livejournal.com profile] a_phale would be able to recommend something, but I see he's not here. Any ideas?"

Marty is having trouble learning Phale's inventory system and is a little flustered.

"Hey Kiki. I got to tell you most of Phale's stuff here is mostly rare books and first editions. Are you looking for something specific? Hopefully I can find something for you."

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hm, not particularly. I was looking for some recommendations. Anything with a good plot and some adventure would be good." Kiki starts looking over the shelves and piles.

Marty checks a couple of items from the inventory sheet.

"Uh... Let's see. Count of Monte Cristo? The Three Musketeers? Les Miserables? Man in the Iron Mask?"

Marty looks up from the sheet.

"Sorry. Looks like Phale has a thing for Alexandre Dumas."

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm...Three Musketeers sounds promising. I'll give that one a try," Kiki says.

[ooc: Although her mun is giggling at the thought of weighing her down with 1500 pages of Victor Hugo, hee!]

Marty hunts down the book and pulls down a large hardback copy of the book that's fairly old but in relatively good shape.

"It looks like an old copy Kiki. Is this still good for you?"

Kiki turns the book over in her hands, brushing the leather cover and the gold lettering on the spine.

"This looks just wonderful," she says. "How much is it?"

[identity profile] oatmanspatient.livejournal.com 2005-10-03 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Marty checks the list and winces.

"It's $45.00. I think it's an antique."

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, that's okay, I think," Kiki answers, digging in her pocket. She pulls out $50.00 and hands it over.

Marty gives her five dollars and change and puts the book in a bag.

"Thanks Kiki! Hope you enjoy it!"

"Thank you, Martin," Kiki smiles, and she curls up in a comfortable armchair with her cup of tea and her new book, careful to not spill anything on the pages.
