Phale's Bookshop - Open for business

Marty makes a quick phone call on his way to town to open up Phale's bookstore.

As usual the place is neat and tidy, and the pot of tea has refilled itself on its own and the plate of cookies has been replinished. Weird.

[OOC: If not at class, study hall, etc. Marty will be here to help Phale while he's out of town, though he has no access to any "special books".]

::Cally wanders into the bookstore for the first time, looking a little glum. She wanders a bit, just generally browsing::

Marty waves at Cally.

"Hey Cally! Looking for anything in particular?"

Oh, hey Marty. You work here?

I'm just looking for something... something involving boats. Like, old sailing ships.

Marty looks through a couple of shelves and pulls out a copy of Moby Dick and holds it up.

"How about this?"

::her brow furrows, and she bites her lip::

You think it'd make a good gift? I'm not familiar with it. I'm trying to get something for... a friend.

"Anyone in particular?" Marty asks gently. "It might help to know who I'm picking this out for."

You know Archie? The guy who looks kinda like Lee, but with long ~~gorgeous~~ hair? Kinda has a bit of a funny ~~but adorable~~ accent?

I'm kinda looking for something that says... I'm just looking for something nice, that's all.

"Hmmm... I don't know Archie that well. He's kind of a Navy guy, right? I'm afraid I don't know much about him."

Marty starts looking through Phale's inventory list

"Is everything okay Cally?"

[OOC: Sorry if I'm taking too long to respond. I running a manhunt for a mime back at the dorm.]

Yeah... he's from the navy.

::sighs::

It's just... Well... I don't want to bother you with all my stupid personal problems. I'm sure you don't want to hear them. ::fidgets a little::

[ooc: No problem. I'm working in two threads and doing homework currently, actually!]

"Cally... We watched Iron Chef and SNL together. If we can share that together, then you can tell me your problems. Plus... I'm stuck in a book store, I need somebody to talk to."

He gives Cally a friendly wink.

"So spill it already."

::takes a deep breath, and sighs::

Would you believe I've successfully managed to screw up Homecoming dates three times in the past week? Three.

Marty remembers her breaking off the date with Shep on Saturday...

"Three times? For yourself? How did that happen exactly?"

Well, first it was Anders... who asked me, but then didn't talk to me for over a week... sure, there was that whole Zombie thing in the middle, but you'd kinda think that mortal danger would make someone more interested in checking in on you, don't you think?

Then it was the whole stupid Shep thing. He just moved so fast on me I just... it was too much.

::sighs:: And then there was Archie.

"Anders asked you out and then ignored you? Doesn't sound like you messed that up to me. And if Shep was pressuring you to go out... well I'd hardly call that an attractive quality. Nobody likes someone who's pushy."

Marty checks a couple a more titles.

"But what's wrong with Archie?"

Well, he says... he said he has to keep his word and go to Homecoming with Lana.

Even after all that happened between us Saturday night. ::sigh::

Marty thinks about that for a second for a second or two.

"So you and Archie have a ... relationship, but he promised Lana that he'd go to the dance with her before this whole thing with you started right?"

Marty furrows his brows.

"Sounds like your... uh. Sounds like Archie has a overdeveloped sense of honor. I still don't see how this is your fault though Cally."

::bites her lower lip, and clenches a fist for a second, before shutting her eyes and taking a deep breath::

We don't have a relationship, apparently. I just...

I kissed him. And he kissed back. But apparently that didn't mean anything to him. ::her eyes are beginning to tear up a little::

"Awww. C'mon Cally. It sounds to me like he wants to go with you but he's too old fashioned to break off his date with Lana. Am I right?"

way... way... old-fashioned

::she can't really hold back the tears anymore::

Except... he doesn't. He... he apologized about what happened. As if it was just some giant mistake...

Marty steps forward and puts his arm around Cally. He can't stand to see a girl cry. He pulls out some kleenex and hands it to her.

"You want me to ~~shoot him in the kneecaps~~ try and talk to him?"

::wipes her eyes::

No, that's okay. I don't... I don't want his night ruined or anything. ::sniffle:: It's my fault for... for letting myself get like this. ::blows her nose::

I just want to find some nice guy who'll go with me, that's all. Is that really so much to ask? ::sniffle::

Marty gives her a smile.

"I think you deserve more than just that Cally. You deserve a nice guy. Period."

Marty tries to think of the guys he knows in town and at the dorm who weren't already committed, going to homecoming, evil, or ~~entirely way into subtext~~ weren't Cally's type.

"You'll find him Cally. Better yet, he's going to find you."

::sniffle, then wipes her nose and eyes::

He better. I think my new poster might help nudge him towards me a little faster, too. ::nervous laugh::

"The guy who's going to ask you out won't ask because of your poster, Cally. Most likely he'll ask you out because of your Rover impersonation and your ability to kill toasters."

::laughs::

Thanks Marty. ::sniffs, and wipes her eyes::

I needed that.

Marty holds up Moby Dick.

"Now if you're looking for adventure on the high seas for Archie, he'll probably like this. But I think you really should talk to him some more and tell him how you really feel about him."

~~And if he hurts you the entire dorm will kill him~~

::wipes her eyes, and smiles::

You know... I think I'll still take the book. For me.

As for Archie, well... I already heard something about him being all knight-in-shining armor for Lana last night... I really don't want to be that girl who messes with other people's relationships again. ::takes a deep breath, and sighs::

Like you said, there's somebody out there... I just gotta keep trying, I guess.

"Better yet, just be yourself. The book is on me."

::smiles::

Thanks. It better be good. ::laughs, and hugs Marty::

You ever need someone to talk to, whenever... just stop by or call me, okay?

"And my door is always open to you Cally. Except if... well use discretion."

::giggles::

I'll make sure to knock.

::takes the book, and waves::

Seriously, thanks again. You have a nice day, okay?

[ooc: Ack. Gotta run to class. I'll be quiet for a couple hours, sorry.]

Dressed as nicely as her closet will provide, Angela walks quietly into the book store.

"So I heard someone wanted to take me to Nolita or something?," she says.

Marty looks up from Phale's inventory sheet that he's trying to decipher and grins. For once he's not entirely dressed in a suit. Granted it's missing only the tie...

Marty pretends to look around at the empty bookstore for someone else and and smiles.

"Guess that would be me, huh?"

He gives Angela a warm and affectionate hug.

"You look very nice tonight."

Angela returns the hug. "Thanks. You too," she says, smiling.

"So when is our reservation?"

Marty gives her a soft kiss.
