"Hey, Deb," Shane says as she steps into the shop. "How's it going?"

Angelus walks in after sundown. He spies Shane and gives her a nod of hello. "Hey."

"Oh hey," Shane says, returning the nod as she gives him a smile. "Hey, man. What can I get for you?"

Angelus reached into his backpack and pulled out a Zombie weekend T-shirt. "It's late, but a little birdie told me you wouldn't hate getting one of these."

Shane's expression was puzzled as she glanced at the t-shirt Angelus was holding up. As her eyes scanned the text on the front, she straightened up from the counter and laughed, clapping her hands together once. "That is awesome," she said emphatically.

"There was a fire?" Shane asks worriedly, glancing over towards the kitchen. "Everyone's okay, right?"

It didn't take a whole box of baking soda to put it out.

Shane looks back over at Deb, nodding. "Good. I'm glad," she says, looking noticeably relieved.

Alanan comes in, carrying way too many books under one hand. "Um, I'll have the the beef sandwich and the salad. And cheesecake. Just one slice."

"Hey," Shane greets her, nodding as she writes her order down on her pad. "Lots of books," she comments with a smile as she heads to the order drop-off and yells for a regular dinner. "Cramming for class?"

"Nah, medical texts. I study for class five minutes before hand."

"Oh." Shane's brow arches slightly as she comes back up to the counter with Alanna's order bagged and ready to go. "That'll be $17.90," she says, smiling. "So you wanna be a doctor?"

Alanna shakes her head. "Nope, healing is just something I'm good at and that I like doing. I want to be a Knight."

Kate slips inside the diner, pausing at the entrance and simply surveying the place. Once again she realises how comforting it seems--homey and warm. The wonderful food doesn't hurt, either, and a glance at the menu reminds her of how hungry she is and makes her mun salivate.

When her gaze lands on Shane, her eyes light up, and her lips curve into a warm smile. Not wanting to disturb her while she's working, she turns back to the menu and contemplates what she should order.

Shane stands behind the counter, busying herself with starting fresh new pots of regular and decaf coffee to brewing. Hearing someone come and sit down at the counter, she turns and a broad smile immediately shapes her lips. She comes up to the counter, tossing the empty coffee packets into the trash as she does so.

"Hey," she says brightly. "You're back."

At the sound of Shane's voice, Kate averts her eyes from the Chalkboard and grins, an expression she's used more in the past week than most of her years in Los Angeles.

"I am," she replies, and both Glad to be back and I missed you are are heavily implied in her voice.

"How was the mainland?" Shane asks warmly, her own tone of voice evoking the same sentiment. She leans over the counter and steals a quick kiss. "And what can I get you, miss?" She asks with a grin, eyes gleaming.

Michael enters with Ben, and takes a seat in a booth. As Ben goes to the men's room, Michael stretches out and inconspicuously props his feet on the opposite bench.

Shane approaches the table, pad and pen in hand. "Hey, Mike," she says with a smile. "How's the evening looking for you?"

"Good, good," Shane says as she nods, a slow smile curling her lips. "My -- my girlfriend just got back to town, so... that doesn't suck."

We did some good business today. And Chihaya said that Homecoming is open to townies, and was encouraging me and Ben to go. I can't decide if that's a good idea or not. Are you and Carl thinking about going?

If you're worried about being out, don't be. Some of the kids are too. One guy was in buying Prince shirts for his boyfriend.

This place is really tolerant.
