She holds up a dark navy tee with a key-hole neck edged in orange and yellow ribbing that says "Foxy" with a fox's head where the o should be.
"But you're welcome to look around. We have some peasant blouses that should fit you."

She goes to look at some of the novelty tees. They're better than the scrap rags her former crop of t-shirts now are.

When she goes up to the register to pay for her clothing, a thought strikes her. "Do you have other things here too? Like, a set of Smurfs glasses? Or cartoon pillowcases?"
no subject
"Let's see, I have He-Man, Smurfs, Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears. No glasses, sorry. That's $12 for the shirts and the jeans are $5 each."

She rings up the clothes and linens and hands back the credit card.
"You know, my son, Michael, has the Emporium. I'll bet he could get you any clothes you needed."
no subject
She takes back her credit card and slips it inside her purse. "Oh, is he your son? You know, I stopped by there earlier for my ice cream, chocolate, and coffee binge. He was awfully nice. I must have completely missed the clothing section. Too focused on Ben & Jerrys for my own good, I guess." Janet's grin is wry and self-deprecating.

Deb readies her pad. "The Special, the Veggie or one of each? And what can I get you to drink?"

Deb vanishes briefly and returns with the drinks and is gone again. The kids need their privacy afetr all.

Logan flashes Deb a charming smile and picks a table by the window.
"Allie? Order anything you like."
no subject
"So, Logan, where are you from?" she asks hesitantly.
no subject
"Connecticut. I used to attend a private high school there. You?"
no subject
Allie runs her fingers over her corsage.
"How'd you end up here?"

"Looks can be deceiving, huh? My parents agreed to send me here for advanced science training since I want to go to med school. I'm not even taking any science classes."
no subject
Logan sips his lemonade.
"Med school? I wouldn't have guessed - you don't really seem like the med school type. I mean, not that you couldn't be, I just didn't expect that."

Allie takes a bite of her pork and thinks about how to respond to Logan's surprise about her plans.
"I've wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember. I want to help people. Do you know what you're going to study at Yale?"
no subject
Logan pushes the vegetables around on his plate.
"I don't really have any burning desire for anything yet. The family business is journalism, but that doesn't appeal to me... I'm sure you'll make a great doctor - why is it that you're not in any science courses now? I've heard Ms. Sidle's courses are thorough."

Allie suddenly wonders if Logan knows about Lilly. She isn't sure if she should bring it up.
"Did you ever talk to Lilly about the new roommates decision?" she asks, in lieu of mentioning their roommate's status as a dead person.

"Oh, I was just wondering. I haven't really seen her lately either."
no subject
"Your parents sent you here... any brothers or sisters?"
no subject
Allie finishes her meal but has left a few bites on her plate, which she pushes around with her fork absentmindedly.

Logan watches Allie push her food around for a few moments.
"Would you like anything else, or are you ready to head to the main event?"
no subject
She dabs her lips with her napkin.
"I don't think I could eat another bite. Let's go."

Deb makes shooing motions. "We're closed until midnight. I'm off to Michael's."
