Tuesday Afternoon at the Perk

She walks in, hoping Shane will be there. Not seeing her or Harkness yet, she orders a double French vanilla latte and sits at a table where she can see the door. She's reading her Inter.Comm. textbook, looking up whenever the door opens.

Backing into the door, Shane's eyes are fixed on her cellphone as she steps into the Perk. She thumbs a key and brings the phone up to her ear, pulling her sunglasses off with her free hand as she goes.

[She looks up from her book. A smile spreads across her face a she shoots her hand into the air]

Shane, baby...come here!

Seeing movement out of the corner of her eye and hearing her name, Shane turns to look and smiles as she sees CJ. "Hey," she says, holding up her hand. She closes her phone and heads over to the table, tucking her cellphone into the breast pocket of her jacket. "What's up?"

I'm waiting for a student. I have a meeting with him. And I was hoping to run into you...it's been a rough couple days and I feel like I've been ignoring you...and that's not cutting it. I missed you.

[She stands and wraps her arms around Shane]

"Oh..." Shane says, blinking, surprised by the words as well as the hug. She holds CJ back, smiling. "I-I... that's... that's okay. I know you've had a lot going on."

That was my own fault...You know I told him. We..had to work stuff out. But it's all ok now. Sit down, I can chat til Jack shows up.

Shane nods and takes a seat across from her. "I kinda figured things were better, seeing you guys at the diner last night," she says quietly. She meets CJ's eyes. "I'm glad everything's okay."

I stand by what I told you earlier though. That was...[sighs]...nothing I ever wanted to do. Horrible doesn't describe it.

[sips her latte]

But it's all ok now. I think.

Nodding, Shane pulls out her cellphone. It gives her hands something to do besides want to grab for her cigarettes and it gives her eyes something else to look at.

"Yeah," she says, still speaking quietly. She licks her lips carefully for a moment before speaking again. "I... I've decided. I'm -- I'm not telling Kate. I can't."

I understand. I do. [she reaches across the table and lays her hand in front of Shane] we're some tough chicks, huh? To have gotten this far?

"Yeah," Shane says with a soft chuckle, reaching over to clasp CJ's hand. "I don't always feel so tough." Just tired... and old ...

I know, baby. [her other hand flies up in the air] My student's here. You gonna be around?

Glancing over her shoulder, she sees a male student walking in, and looks back at CJ. "Yeah, umm... I just stopped by for coffee. I'm on my way to work, but... I'll be there later," she says, nodding, a small smile curling her lips.

I'll stop in. I think I'll see if there's any of that carrot cake left. I'll see you then.

"Okay," Shane says, still smiling as she stands, picking up her cellphone in one hand and grasping CJ's shoulder for a moment. "I'll see you later." She offers the student a smile as she pushes her chair back into place under the table and heads off up to the counter to order her coffee.

*pauses in the doorway, sees CJ talking with a dark-haired girl*

[She clears her throat] Yes. Specifically what I take issue with is Ash's description of the Doctor as a 'pervert' because not only is it hurtful, it reflects negatively on me, and I will not tolerate that at all. Ash has also said extremely hurtful things about other teachers, and when he's on the radio he has a total disregard for honesty.

I've gotten all the tapes of all the broadcasts. I want some help with a sustained campaign of revenge against that jackass.

Sure. What can I do to help? If you've already got the broadcasts, I suppose you don't need me to, ah, liberate them.

No...asking Barbossa nicely was easy enough. It was a little lie...but let's call it spin and move on.

I want your help cutting the tape of Ash and making him look like more of an idiot than he is. Then we'll move on to a little destruction of property.

And if you have any ideas...[she leans forward and smiles that half smile again]...I'd love to hear them.

Hmmmm... don't have any ideas right this moment, but give me some time to think. I'm sure I can come up with *something*. Any ETA for the first part of this plan? I need to know when to get my assignment in.

As soon as possible. I also understand he's doing art appreciation. I was thinking about seeing what I could do to his slides to spice up the course. [She looks positively evil thinking of what she could do]

*scoops up tapes* Let me see what I can get done tonight on these, and I'll report tomorrow. Okay?
