In the Park before math class (locked to Tara and Maia)

Maia sits on the bench in the Park with a cup of coffee for her and a cup of tea for Tara and some muffins. Tara should be along any in a few minutes. She was not sure what kind of muffins Tara liked so she got a couple different kinds.

Tara slides onto the bench next to Maia and takes the tea gratefully, inhaling the fragrance. "You, Maia, are the best."

"Yum," Tara says enthusiastically, helping herself to a blueberry muffin. "It was... kind of intense, actually. I stayed talking to Shane for a while after you left." She blushes.

Tara smiles shyly, but shakes her head. "She has a girlfriend. So I'm look-y, but not touch-y. But she didn't open up to me, actually... it was kind of more the other way around." She laughs wryly. "I really think I need to find myself a good counsellor."

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Um." Tara replied. "Should I have mentioned it? That I'm gay? 'Cos that was kind of the other reason why my family disapproved of my 'lifestyle'."

She rubs the scar on her chest, but waits to hear Maia's answer on the lesbian question before moving on.

"It's okay. Did it hurt?" She shakes her head. "I didn't even feel it. I saw the blood, but I didn't know where it had come from. What else did you want to know?"

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Tara pulled Maia to her and stroked her hair. "I'm sorry, sweetie. I didn't mean to snap. I just... I've got a lot of issues all tied up in this right now."

She paused, collecting her thoughts. "I told you it was a gunshot, right? Well, it was an accident. It wasn't aimed at me - like I said last night, it's never about me. And the blood... the blood spattered all over my girl. Across her shirt, her neck. That's the sort of stain that never washes out. I died looking at the woman I love, and maybe there's no better way to go than that. But she had to watch me die, and I don't think there's anything worse than that." Tara's whole being was tinged with a deep sadness, but her voice was perfectly calm.

Tara paused again. "Is this too much?"

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 02:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Tara hummed in pleasure at the feeling of fingers in her hair. "No, she doesn't know. It was... it was really bad for her. She went a little crazy, and I... did you know that the soul stays on the mortal plane for three days after death?"

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Everything," Tara whispered, tightening her grip on Maia. "It was... bad." Bitterly, she adds, "I don't think it could possibly have been worse. That's the bit that hurts. Not the bullet, but what it caused, and what I lost." Tara's voice is thick, and it sounds like she is fighting not to cry.

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 02:24 pm (UTC)(link)
"Everything," Tara whispered again. "I lost my trust, I lost my faith, I lost my compass... I lost my girl to the dark, and I don't know if she's coming back." Tara let the tears fall, silently. "She said she's not coming back. He killed us both with that bullet. And I watched her die, and I couldn't hold her."

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Tara dropped her head onto Maia's lap, half-lying on the park bench in the warm sunshine and sobbing her heart out. There are broken words audible here and there - "couldn't hold her", "his skin" and "my fault" amongst them.

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
After a while Tara's sobs quietened into shaky breathing. She didn't lift her head from Maia's lap, but said quietly, "I'm sorry. I guess I needed that."

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Instinctively, Tara pulled her hand away from that laced grip, the memories of another park bench and another hand triggering a brief sensation of panic and another sob. She shifted the grip, clasping Maia's hand in a more comfortable way. "We're supposed to be working on your shields."

Tara breathes out heavily, and lifts her head. She smiles a watery sort of smile. "Alright. I've been selfish long enough."

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"But you've got class soon, don't you? So let's try to get a little done before then."

She moves off the bench and onto the grass, gesturing for Maia to join her.

"The first step is to help you get aware of the energies we're working with. This is a simple chakra meditation - you might have done one like it in yoga. The only difference is, for you we're not going to open up your astral chakra, okay? And I'll talk you through it."

[identity profile] brambless.livejournal.com 2005-10-12 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I want you in contact with the earth, that's why we're on the grass. Other than that, just be comfortable. Sit, lie down, whatever's most relaxing." She grins. "If you fall asleep I'll poke you, though."

"Okay," Tara says, and her voice drops into a soothing lilt. "I want you to close your eyes, and visualise that the earth beneath you is an ocean of white light, lapping against your legs, your hands, your feet. Gently, gently lapping. I want you to imagine that white light travelling up your legs. It's warm, and it's relaxing. Don't force it, just let it get a little higher with each wave."

"That's good, Maia. Let it wash up you." Tara watched Maia's aura closely, alert to any changes that would indicate success or failure. "Now, I want you to image a red jewel, set into your pelvis. Let the light keep flowing into you until it reaches that jewel, and then you're just going to let the light flow out of that jewel in your pelvis, a stream of red light flowing out of you."

Tara holds back her hair, stroking her forehead until the heaving stops. "Oh, honey, I'm sorry. I didn't think..." She rubs Maia's back with her other hand. "From your aura... sweetie, that looked like a psychic attack. I didn't cast a circle, I didn't think I needed to for just meditation."

((OOC: Of course not. Where would be the fun in that?))

Tara pulls Maia into her arms, half onto her lap, and tucks the girl's head under her chin, crooning and rocking her gently. "Oh, honey. Oh honey, I didn't know. We won't let it happen again."

Stroking Maia's hair and holding the girl close, Tara calmly cast a circle, chanting under her breath and using her free hand to trace and direct the energies until they formed a protective sphere around the two of them. It wouldn't stop a physical being for a second, but it would serve as a fair barrier against psychic or mystical attack. That done, she laid a cool hand on Maia's forehead, concerned about the fever.

Tara cupped Maia's hands in both of hers, and blew warm air onto the icy fingers, continuing to croon softly. Maia's aura was weak - it was no wonder she felt cold and feverish. It looked almost like someone had siphoned her energy away.

((Not intending to godmode. Just because it looks like this doesn't mean it is!))

Gently, Tara teased a thread of her own aura out, and extended it to Maia, hoping that the drained girl would instinctively accept the energy. There was an unpleasant flickering that worried her profoundly, but she clamped down on those feelings, making sure that the energy she offered Maia was clean and untainted.

((I have *got* to go to bed. I'm sorry! Finish up later?))
