The Emporium, Wednesday morning

After spending an hour dealing with inept delivery people and making sure they delivered everything he'd ordered, Michael flips the sign from "closed" to "open" and settles down behind the counter with a couple of comic books and a notepad.

Chihaya came in, having finished up his classes for the day. He grabbed his apron and while tying it on, went to grab a duster to dust the shelves and straighten the stock. "Hi, Michael!"

Hi! How have you been? How was Homecoming?

"It was fun!" Chihaya said cheerfully. "At least the part I went to, the carnival part. I went home after that, to see Kagetsuya. I'm not big on parties and stuff. But I heard it was a good time for them!"

He turned the labels around on cans so they faced front. "How did the party you were planning go?"

I'm glad you had a good time.

The party was nice. Spike gave us some liquor to keep us happy, we had lots of food and the people around here are very nice. *lowers voice* I think someone needs to intervene the next time Red decides to pick out his own tie, however. It was...an interesting grouping of colors.

Inara comes in, looking for perfume oils. "Good evening, Mike."

Hi, Inara. Good to see you again. What can I help you find?

Scented oils. Ylang-ylang, tea rose, and lavender if you have them.

Hmmm...we've got incense and that sort of stuff, but I'm not sure that that oil is meant to wear, if that's what you're going for. We've got packaged perfumes, but not oils. I'd be happy to order some for you, though. Is there a particular place you'd like me to order from?

(ooc: I've no idea what we've got til someone asks. Sometimes I look at the place sort of like a bag of infinite holding, don't know what I've got til I reach in. :P But the store motto is, "if we don't have it, we'll order it.")

Yes, please order it in, Mike. It doesn't have to be from anywhere particular, I usually blend them up with some fresh herbs for particular scents.

How are things around here?

The place we order our scented soaps from has oils as well, so I'll order from there. Should be in on Friday, unless you're in a hurry for it and want me to rush the order.

Things have been quiet the past couple of days, but I've been keeping busy. *half-slides comic books under his notepad, a little ashamed of his reading material in front of this very classy lady* How is the counseling business?

Actually, it's pretty quiet. Nothing since Homecoming, and very little to speak of.

I'm disappointed. *small smile* I was hoping to get all the juicy gossip of young love.

Ah. I think you have to work in the coffeehouse or one of the drinking establishments to get the really good gossip. There seems to be plenty of drama -- whether they want to be cured of it is probably another question entirely.

I don't suppose you have any good remedies for writers block, do you? Ben's been having a hell of a time with the book he's writing lately. I'm worried about him.

Writer's block...? I suppose he could go out and do something else for a while, then come back and see if inspiration has struck again.

I don't know much about writing books. Is he trying to write a novel?

Yeah, he's a university professor, but he's taking a year off to write this novel. It had been going really well for a while. Now, not so much. He probably just needs to get out more. I don't get out much myself, so I don't know the town real well yet. Any recommendations for a good place to go out to relax?

Well, the Perkolator is good if you just want coffee and a meal. It's usually full of students though, and can get rowdy at times.

Spike's Pub is definitely rowdy, there's usually music playing and a few townspeople and students in there drinking.

And you'd know about your mom's cafe, of course.

I generally perfer the Perk. It's quiet, the ambience is good, and Jane doesn't mind if I occupy a chair for half the days as long as I keep buying the coffee.

I think that we need to organise a few smaller parties. Card games, mahjong nights - small things were a few of us can get together and chat.

That's a great idea. Ben's really into Asian cultures, I bet a good game of mahjong would interest him ~~because I suck at it~~. We're all from so many different worlds around here that sharing games from our own cultures could be a learning experience too. It'd be nice to really get to know some of the townspeople better ~~so we can band together in case of another zombie attack~~.

The sharing games idea is great.

If you like, I could issue a few invitations. I don't know too many people around the town, but it would be worth trying.

After all, the students have their little revelries. Why shouldn't the adults and teachers have the same opportunity?

I couldn't agree with you more. And please do -- issue invitations, I mean. I'll see if I can find some people as well. If we need a place to do it, I'd be happy to host; our apartment is upstairs here. We could switch off where they're held, if we start holding more of them. *smiles* I didn't realize how much I'd been working without having a balance of play time. This will be a good change of pace.

If you're hosting, you get to choose the date. Pick a time convenient for you and we'll see who can make it.

Okay. Let's see...next Wednesday? Is that good for you?

((ooc: Mun is getting sick, so next few days will not be doable as I ~~sleep my life away~~ attempt to get better. I'm on Arizona time, which will be = Pacific Time until the 30th...but I have decent access from work so we can start in the afternoon PT if that's preferable))

I don't have anything on next Wednesday, so that's a start. I'll ask around town and see who can come.

Sounds good. *smiles* This will be fun. Maybe it'll lift Ben's spirits too. Just let me know who accepts the invitation, and I'll make sure there's plenty of food and drink.
