Phoebe has never been into Pandora's Box, but she has heard a lot about it all over the school. It made her curious and a curious witch was trouble.

Also, she wanted to scope out this guy who had Buffy smiling in that secret way of hers.

"I've never been in here, before, but the students at school are always talking about you and your shop---especially Buffy."

"Coffee would be great." She grins. "So...why do you like Buffy?"

Shes a sweet girl, and an occasional welcome distraction. Shes also a damn good fighter.

"She's indeed a sweetheart, as long as you don't piss her off or hurt people she cares about. Fighter, oh yes. But then, I guess when you have her responsibilities, you ahve to be."

Phoebe likes him, and figures if he cares about Buffy, he'd probably want to know.

"Well, she's the Slayer, which means it's her responsibility to kill evil bad creatures...zombies...vampires...she has no choice but to fight them until they eventually kill her. Most Slayers don't live past 18. She's 18 now...so any night could end up being her last..." Phoebe takes another drink of her coffee. "Throw in an obsessive ex-boyfriend intent on messing her up...well, you'd be a fighter, too."

I do hope you understand however, that Buffy isnt... that Im not intending to have any form of serious relationship with the girl?

I admire her, would like to help her hone her skills...perhaps even allow her to have someone "safe" in her life for a time...
But my intent is not romance.

Phoebe nods. "That's good. A serious romance would probably scare her away and make her disappear from sight. Her last romance went very badly." She smiles at Frank. "I think you're exactly what she needs right now..." Phoebe frowns slightly. "Does Buffy know for sure that you're not serious about her? She needs to know because if you're not serious about her, then you're most likely safe from her ex."

Phoebe ponders this for a long moment. "Maybe you are what she needs...you said you could help her hone her skills?" She nods thoughtfully. "That would be a very good idea. Also a pleasant distraction for her." She looks at Frank and her eyes are serious. "Her ex-boyfriend isn't human."

I would be a fool not to be afraid, Phoebe, but I do know how to actively channel my fear into more appropriate emotions and actions. Fear is a gift, its what gives you the adremniline rush to fight, when you need to.

"Well, not really. You've been honest and I can see you mean what you say and are not leading my friend on. However, if it's not openly known that you don't want any kind of relationship with Buffy...it could lead to trouble."
