Body Farm Field Trip

*They begin walking around the facility.* Nearly everything known about the science of human decomposition comes from one place -- forensic anthropologist William Bass' Body Farm, funded by the University of Tennessee. This facility is rather similar in many respects.

*The bodies are stuffed into car trunks, left lying in the sun or shade, buried in shallow graves, covered with brush or submerged in ponds.*

Grissom, can you explain what the significance of some of these insects are? *To the class, noting some faces looking green* I did bring vomit bags--don't hesitate to grab one out of pride. Ruining this research might have you added to the research.

*Various scientists take note of what insects come calling, and how long it takes them to do their work. Others test vital organs for protein degradation, amino-acid breakdown and levels of gas in the tissue. A project in partnership with the nearby Oak Ridge National Laboratory aims to create a calendar of decomposition by finding a substance that decays at a stable rate for comparison -- the half-life of death, so to speak.*

Wednesday was dressed in dark slacks and high boots for a change, instead of her normal dress. A pair of gloves in one hand, her hair tied up firmly beneath a black cap, she glanced around with interest.

When Sidle's back was turned, Angelus grabbed Callisto by the arm and yanked her into a room that turned out to be a supply closet.

"You completely started it!" he accused her, keeping his voice down just in case anybody passing by the closed door could hear them. "As if I would ever want to touch you."

Please, as if I would ever want you to touch me. Tell you a little secret? The entirety of that field trip, I wanted to srcub my skin with lye and a wire-brush.

Maia comes up to a corpse floating in the water.

"I-is that its skin coming off?" She sees the cloudy water around the corpse fighting an urge to vomit. "Does skin melt off like that?" The smell making her eyes water, she doesnt look at Grissom while she asks the question, her eyes are fixed on the corpse. Maia's arms and legs are covered in bruises, she crosses her arms across her chest to hide some of them.

By the way, if you see any corpses wrapped in bags, do not disturb them. That is to measure how long it takes a given body to liquify.

Maia hears Sara's speech, looking over and seeing a bag somewhat less full looking then the one next to it. Maia realizes it must be a corpse that had liquified already. Shivering all over from the thought of it Maia grabs her bag and starts to vomit.
