In the Park, Sunday

Feeling much better about things after his chat with CJ, Aziraphale opens up the shop and then goes to sit on his favorite bench in the park. The sign on the door of the shop reads:

OPEN
Please feel free to browse.
The Proprietor can be found in the park.

Browsers inside in the shop will find a hot pot of tea and a plate of homemade biscuits sitting the counter, with a note that reads "Please help yourself".

Edward walks in. He hasn't had lunch because the cafetaria at school wasn't open, and he smelled fresh cookies. He hopes to find the 'recorded books' mister Phale told him about, because that would be an awesome way to read a book without damaging it.

Noticing Edward enter the shop, Aziraphale gets up from his bench (much to the displeasure of the ducks) and walks over to greet him.

"Please help yourself, Edward. Can I help you find anything?"

(When Edward looks back at the plate of cookies, he'll discover that they are shaped like lady's fingers, with a crisp exterior -- perfect for being picked up by a person with scissors for hands.)

"Oh hey" Ed says, as he looks up. "Those cookies are really nice" He smiles, and picks one up, which indeed works amazingly well.

"You know last time we talked, you told me something about the 'recorded books'. And i never been in this shop before, so i thought i'd drop by to just take a look and also to see if you have some of those books."

"Erm, I... let me check my inventory. Feel free to browse around, or have a seat if you like." There being no rare audio-books, at least the Aziraphale knows of, he is fully aware that checking the inventory will be futile. However, he did promise to help Edward find some. After making a show of looking into the big ledger on the counter, Aziraphale smiles at Edward. "I believe I may have something upstairs. Won't be but a minute."

Ed smiles and nods, and while Aziraphale is upstairs he wanders over to the section with medieval english poetry*) and quickly scans the titles, thinking he should maybe forget the audio-book and just get something like 'sir gawain and the green knight', and try not to slash it while reading.

*)That is, assuming you have one 0.o

After a few minutes, Aziraphale returns from upstairs, looking very slightly dusty. He smiles at the book Edward has picked out. "I've found a couple of those books they record onto CDs, if you think they'd interest you?" He offers the CDs to Edward, who finds that one just coincidentally happens to be Sir Gawain and the Green Knight.

[OOC: Don't be silly, of course I have a medieval poetry section. :)]

Edwards eyes widen as he sees CDs Aziraphale is holding. "Waw, that's...awesome. Ooh i like that. Very much" Ed beams as he looks at the cds and sees books by Langland, Trollope and Bronte. Aziraphale has good taste in books, even in cd-format. "I'll take them," Ed says, and he's still beaming as he hands Aziraphale the money.

Aziraphale smiles back, glad to see Edward so happy. "You're quite welcome," he says, ringing up the sale on his shiny antique cash register. "I do hope you enjoy them. Just let me know if you'd like others, and I'll put in an order for you."

((OOC: this chaucer guy hanging around makes me all giddy over english lit, and makes me wanna make beowulf-injokes 0.o That means ed will drop by for some canterbury tales sooner or later))

"Okay, thanks again. I really appreciate this" Ed says, as he scoops up another cookie, and leaves the shop holding the cds to his chest as if they were his baby.

"Have a good day, Edward," Aziraphale calls after him.

[OOC: Oh, Aziraphale has a lovely stock of early edition works by Chaucer, who of course is his favorite writer, as well as an original version of Beowulf without all of the later Christianization (the only copy in existance, actually, because...well, he wrote it down himself). :D]

"You to" Ed calls, as he practically skips away.

((OOC: Edward thinks Trogdor is hawt, and so is sir Thopas, so he will be back for sure))

Aziraphale smiles at Edward's enthusiasm and makes a note in his inventory to order more audio-books.

((Of course Paige would be in buying every Chaucer book Aziraphale has, but she's scared about screwing with time, she also thinks there should be a way for Chaucer to be picking up royalities despite the fact in this time he's not actually that much yet))

[OOC: There were, unfortunately, no royalties in the 14th century. Aziraphale would happily sell Paige a copy of Tale of the Duchess, however, as Chaucer has already written that one. :)]

((she'll be in if she can ever drag herself out of bed with Geoff then! I'm sure he'll be very happy to see the book, is this the one thats "allegorical?" (that may well be spelt wrong)))

[OOC: Whoops -- that should have been "Book of the Duchess". It's basically an elegy for the wife of John of Gaunt (who was Chaucer's father-in-law). Technically, it would be the first original he'd have written at this point in his life. It's a narrative poem, relatively biographical. I think (and bear with me, because it's been a long time since I've studied this) that Parliment of Fowls was more the allegorical work.]

((I was going on what he said in the film, since I know very little about Chaucer and of course Chaucer doesn't a father in law does he? ;D))

[OOC: It's entirely possible that it is more allegorical than I'm remembering, because as I said it's been a long while. But I think the movie was also playing around with things a bit. And no, FH!Chaucer does not have a wife. ~~Yet.~~ I swear. :D]

((A few people have suggested it to Paige IC, that damn homecoming dress gave people ideas! Must not be tempted by rp wedding!))

[OOC: Well, it is a bit soon, and Paige is only 16 after all...:D]

((Erm yeah, but if anyone asks she's 19 ok? ;) She might actually discuss the age thing with him at some point, although it doesn't seem that relevant any more))

[OOC: Wouldn't have been that relevant to Geoff anyway. She's above the age of consent, that's all that matters. Hmmm...suppose their relationship could be the inspiration for the May-December romance in the "Merchant's Tale"?]

((He's not that old is he? But I'm sure Paige would be very touched at inspiring him like that))

[OOC: Well, it's meant to be a social commentary on sex and age, so yeah, the difference is much greater than that between Geoff and Paige. It's also an incredibly vulgur story, if you understand the double meanings behind some of the middle English terms that are used. Although, not as blatantly vulgur as "The Miller's Tale".]

((I'm sure Paige can deal with vulgur, she is the one with the whip and handcuffs after all))

[OOC: Probably just makes it worse. Then poor Aziraphale would have to start thinking about angels and relationships again, and it would freak out his brain and make him sad.]
