Back at Chaucer's

Kiki touches down on the sidewalk outside Chaucer's and walks up to the establishment with her broom on one shoulder and a coffee maker under the other arm.

"Hello, Professor Chaucer?" she calls as she enters. She places the coffee maker on the counter. "She said this was a gift."

Geoff looks up from a table covered in sheets of paper, most of them with writing on them. He's holding a quill in one hand and a bottle of ink sits atop some of the papers. His eyes are bloodshot and it looks as though he may not have shaved yet today.

"Hello, Kiki. What can I--" He stops speaking when he sees he coffee maker. After staring at it for a moment, he looks back to Kiki. "Thank you. I hope there wasn't too much...trouble?"

"Oh, no, she seemed to be okay," Kiki lies. "But... um... I don't think you can count on seeing those plates ever again." She's silent for a moment, then she musters up her courage. "Sir, I don't really think Paige is... herself. I mean, I know you're both going through a rough time, and I don't even know her, but - well, speaking just as a girl, maybe just be patient and talk to her? Well, after she calms down," Kiki adds, recalling that there were knives, as well, in that cooler, and knives could be thrown just as easily as plates.

She blushes guiltily. "I'm sorry, this isn't really my business, sir."

Geoff gives small smile. "Thank you, Kiki. But I'm afraid that it's because of me that she isn't acting herself. I'm not angry with her." He looks over at the coffee maker again. "I'm sorry you had to deliver that twice. How can I make it up to you?"

"It wasn't a problem," Kiki answers hastily. "There's no charge for it. Actually, I should give you back some of your money, since this part of the delivery didn't get delivered. I just wish there was something more I could do to help."

Geoff shakes his head. "Oh, no, keep it for your trouble. I got paid while I was away, so I can spare it." He smiles again, a little more deeply this time. "And thank you for the offer. Although I really don't know what you could do."

"Thanks...I don't really feel right keeping it..." Kiki trails off and nods sympathetically. "I understand. But don't hesitate to ask if you think of anything."

Kiki picks up Jiji and turns to leave. "I hope things look better for you really soon, Professor," she says.

For the third time today, Kiki lands outside Chaucer's, this time carrying a medium-sized box. It appears to be a little bit heavy and a little bit fragile from the way she's carrying it.

"Hello, again, Professor," she says, flashing him a cheerful smile. "I've got a delivery for you this time. It's from Michael at the Emporium - he said it's full of plates and utensils and such. He also sends this note along with it."

Kiki holds out a folded paper, which reads, "Geoff, Very, very sorry about yesterday. I wasn't myself. Here's some of the things you wanted. And don't worry about your tab, I'm clearing it. -- Michael"

At Kiki's appearance, Geoff jumps up from his worktable and quickly takes the box from her arms. He shakes his head at the note and smiles. "Kiki, as often as you've been here lately, I should just give you a key to the place."

Kiki laughs. "That's all right, sir, just glad to be a help."
