Perkolater - Late Afternoon.
Marty is sitting at the perkolator having a cup of coffee but is having problems with the sugar dispenser. Apparently the sugar has solidified and he is banging it with his hand to loosen it up.
"Come on now sugar." *Marty Slaps container* "Bring it on." *Slaps container again* "Bring it on now." *Slaps it a final time and it beings to pour* "Yeah. Finally."
Veronica enters the Perk and watches Marty abusing the sugar container, chuckling to herself.
She walks over and says, "How's it goin', sugar?"
Marty looks up to see Veronica. "Hey Mars. Damn thing was a solid rock. I've got a long night ahead of me and need the caffiene."
Veronica smirks and puts her bag down before heading up to the counter to order her usual chai latte. She re-joins Marty, sits down and says, "Big plans tonight?"
"Well there's Rory's surprise party which I'm debating whether or not to go to and I'm kind of looking into that mess that happened at Spike's the other night. Apparently some of the students went a little nuts and I'm trying to get all the details together on it." Marty says as he takes a generous gulp. "You doing anything special?"
"I'm meeting Angelus for coffee after sundown to interview him for the paper." Veronica says. "Then I'll probably just work on my articles since they're due tomorrow. I definitely won't be attending Rory's party, though I should probably at least send her a card or something."
Marty gives Mars a weird look. "On a Friday night? C'mon why wouldn't you go to... oh. Right. Sorry."
Veronica shrugs. "I like Rory. I don't understand why she's with Logan, unless he's grown up since leaving Neptune. But I don't like Rory enough to put up with Logan at a party on a Friday night. What's going on with you and Angela?"
Marty sighs. "I don't know. We talked a little in Study Hall today but... I don't know if it's going to work out or not. As for Logan... *smirks* if his choice in restaurants are any clue I'd put him down as "still an infant".
"Did you take my advice?" asks Veronica. "Not like I'm really the relationship expert, I accused my boyfriend of murder, but I know what it feels like to bear the brunt of someone's frustration about something else."
Marty winces a litle. "Well we talked and didn't throw things at each other or try to kill each other. Not so sure that's a positive sign or not. I won't kid you and say that's a major factor on whether or not I show up tonight."
*blinks*
"You accused Logan of murdering someone?" Marty asks.
"Well, hopefully you two will work things out." Veronica sighs. "Yeah, have you met Lilly Kane?"
Marty smiles. "Yeah. She's a character. Who'd a thought a girl and giant ball could find true love?"
Veronica smiles. "If anyone could, it would be Lilly." She takes a deep breath. "Lilly was my best friend. She was murdered two years ago."
Marty blinks.
He blinks again and then shakes his head.
"She's dead? Like... Zombie dead or Vampire dead or.... what else is there? Are you still... friends or...?"
Marty chuckles.
"Never mind. I don't want to kow And I thought I had a weird background. I take it Logan was not the killer?"
"Yes, she's dead, but not undead or anything. And she's not a ghost either. I really don't understand how it works. We're still friends, I just haven't seen her much. I kind of freaked when I first ran in to her though. And no, Logan wasn't the killer. I'm surprised you didn't hear about it – his dad, Aaron Echolls, you know, the actor? – did it."
A look of understanding crosses Marty's face. "Logan is Aaron Echoll's son? No wonder he's so screwed up. I remember reading something about the murder but I usually avoid all media blitz coverages. Why did you think Logan had anything to do with the murder?"
Veronica bites her lip. She still not proud of the fact that she didn't trust Logan. "He sort of lied to me about his alibi for the time of Lilly's death… and I found out."
Marty gives Veronica a knowing look. "Yeah... I can understand how that can put a wrench into a relationship. Angela wasn't exactly chipper when she found out what I used to do for a living. Sounds like you were all over Lilly's case."
"She was my best friend. I had to know the truth, no matter who it implicated." Veronica lets out a harsh laugh. "Not exactly the way to win people over, but it's who I am." She pauses and then asks, "Why do you think relationships are so hard?"
Marty chuckles. "I think you're asking the wrong guy about relationships. I've only had two major ones and both of them I ran out on when the going got rough. So you figured out it was Aaron Echolls, huh? What are you some kind of modern day Nancy Drew with an attitude?"
"I dated a guy who almost turned out to be my brother, a drug dealer, a cop and Logan. I think I got you beat," she says with a grin. "As for the Nancy Drew thing, well, I like to think I'm cuter than she is. And I have a way better network of informants. But yes, I figured out it was Aaron," her voice drops to barely audible before she adds, "and almost got myself killed because of it."
Marty laughs. "Yeah... I think you got me beat on the relationship front. And I'll give you the fact that you're cuter than Nancy Drew. But you're safe now right? No one's coming after you now at the moment?"
"Aaron's in jail and I don't think anyone's ever been snarked to death, so yeah, I'm safe. I appreciate your concern though, Marty."
Marty grins. "Security Officer. It's my job. Granted it's more like being a crossing guard than anything else but I will serve out my term honorably." Marty thinks for a second. "You know any other place? Probably couldn't happen, but I'm betting somehow here at this school death by snarkdom would be a viable cause of death."
Veronica chuckles. "You know, you may be right about that. This place is definitely stranger than Neptune… and you can bet that I never thought those words would cross my lips. I'm glad you won, Marty. I think it's a shame that people felt the need to parade your past out for everyone to see during the campaign. We shouldn't be judged on our pasts."
Marty sighs. "I'm just glad that part of my life is over with. I think the whole thing with the Tentacle was really a blessing in disguise. As for winning... Well I'm actually bringing Alanna on board with me as a Co-chair. Two heads are better than one and all that. I've also started working at the local PI firm in town. Donovan's Investigations."
"I'm glad that part of your life is over, too," she says with a teasing grin. "It's kind of hard to believe you were a hit man, really. I don't know Alanna at all, but you're right about two heads being better than one." She looks surprised. "There's a PI firm in town? I wonder if my dad knows them."
Marty's brain switches on. "That's right. You're dad's a PI right? I remember someone saying that. I guess that's where you get the Nancy Drew genes from. I don't know much about the guy, but he hired me on despite my background. Right now I'm just sitting at a desk but I'm hoping something interesting will come up in town that will require our services."
Veronica nods. "Yeah, he was the sheriff, but is a PI now. He has a lot of connections. I'm sure you won't have to wait too long for something interesting to turn up around here."
"You should check out the place. Sheldon and Frank creep me out so it would be nice to have someone somewhat normal around there." Marty says.
Veronica grins. "I am so not used to be considered normal. I kind of like it." She thinks for a moment. "I'll check it out, but I can't make any promises. After the whole almost dying thing last year, my dad would kind of frown on me working as PI again. But he's all the way in California, so we'll see."
Marty laughs. "Oh like our school isn't like one big walking death trap of Angst/Emo and gremlin spit."
Marty then checks his watch. "Listen... it's been good talking to you but I have to check in on someone. We'll need to do this again sometime. You know, except for the part where we talk about almost dying every day." Marty says with a grin. "And I'll keep an eye open for you at the office."
"I agree. I'll catch you later. I'm going to get another chai latte and wait for Angelus," she says, pulling out her notes from last night's Science Club meeting.

"Veronica Mars," he says by way of greeting.

"You want a coffee or something? It's on me. Have a seat."

She shakes her head.
"I'm sorry. You didn't come here to answer questions about being a vampire, you came to answer questions about JA. So, tell me, what is the mission of Junior Achievers?"
no subject
He sipped his drink. "Having said that, I think I just let you win Buzzword Bingo."
no subject
"Okay, so that's a great quote, but what does JA do?," she asks.
no subject
no subject
"Can you give me an example of a member's unique talent that was recently supported?"
no subject
no subject
"So are all your members non-humans?"
no subject
no subject
"Okay, so I'm sure you know that there are people on campus who think the JA is actually an organization of students who are up to no good. How would you respond to that?"
no subject
no subject
"Depends on if you're getting the baked goods from the same place yearbook staff did," she responds.

no subject
"I'd also be happy to offer my services, even though I'm not a JA member. I make a mean snickerdoodle."

[ooc: though my mun is having a rl parents weekend and won't be around saturday or most of sunday]
no subject
[ooc: No Keith??? Wah! But I'll be busy that Fri/Sat for the most part, also due to family coming in from out of town. If you want we can just say Veronica donated snickerdoodles. Assuming they get SC approval for the sale.]
no subject
[ooc: funny! she'll definitely donate cookies. also, i totally see Angelus becoming V's Weevil here... ]
no subject
[ooc: Ha! You know, you're probably not wrong. Though that does make me wonder who Angel would be - Wallace or Duncan?]
no subject
[ooc: *shudder* LOATHE DUNCAN]
no subject
[ooc: Point. Also Angel wouldn't be much with the sex anyway. Which I guess would make him Wallace, which amuses me greatly. Oo! Or Backup. He's not much for brainpower, but he can provide muscle.]
no subject
[ooc: *snicker*]
no subject
[ooc: You realize now we must make that happen if he ever gets souled. Angel was going into the detective biz anyway. He could be Veronica's Backup and she could be his Wesley. ;) ]
no subject
[ooc: you know, i was so not a buffy/angel fun, but i thought angel had a detective biz. how funny!]
no subject
[ooc: Yup, he did. Mind you I'm projecting a lot here, but if we ever did get Angel in this game and he knew that Veronica did the detective thing, he might seek her out, see if she wanted help. Of course this could be if wishes were horses...]

Something occurs to her.
"Can you tell me what other types of non-humans are members of JA? See if maybe they'd be willing to talk to me?"
no subject
"As for non human members," Angelus ticked off the names on his fingertips, "Draco is a wizard, Bel is a demon, Anakin is a Jedi which is a form of magic user as far as I can tell, Mystique is a kind of altered human, and Faith is a vampire Slayer."
He grinned. "If you need any proof of how accepting we are, just look at how close the vampire and the vampire Slayer are. By all rights we should be killing one another."
no subject
"I'll definitely let you know what Chloe and Jake say," she promises.
"Okay, I have to ask. If Faith is a vampire slayer, why hasn't she tried to kill you yet?"

[ooc: sorry for any spelling errors - my eyes are sore and my head is fuzzy.]

[ooc: Sorry for the delayed reply, for some reason didn't get email notification and hitting refresh didn't bring it up until just now]
no subject
"I really appreciate you taking the time to meet with me tonight. I'm sure you have a bustling social calendar on a Friday night, so I won't take up any more of your time."
[ooc: no worries... I was swamped playing Lor last night... V turned in her article already... wanna read over it for me?]

[ooc: Can do, you got me just as I was walking out the door but if you shoot me the URL right now I can do a quick read through]
