Chihaya trots into the Emporium and sees Michael behind the counter. He can feel the unhappiness coming from him and it makes Chihaya sad. He walks up to him and smiles. "Hi, Michael!" he says cheerily.

Hi, Chihaya. How are you today?

He blows out an exasperated breath. "Bored now. I spent all night working on an ad for the school newspaper for a journalism project. Means I didn't go home to Kagetsuya and I have nothing to do." Chihaya leans against the counter. "You don't look very happy, Michael. Is something the matter?"

*gives a weak smile* Ben's visiting our son in Pittsburgh. I'm just missing him. And...we weren't exactly on the best terms when he left.

"Oh," Chihaya says, with a sad look. "I'm really sorry." Curious, Chihaya still wasn't going to pry into Michael's personal life. He wasn't sure he'd be much help anyway.

He glances at his watch and has an idea. "You know, there's a movie playing at the theatre. Wallace & Gromit in The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit. Want to go see it? There are shows at 1, 4 and 7. It'll help take your mind off missing Ben."

Michael looks around the empty shop. No one would miss the store being closed for a couple of hours, right? And the distraction would be welcome.

That's a great idea. *smiles* Thanks. We've still got time to make the early showing, right?

((ooc: ooh, Michael's actually getting out. whee! :P))

"Yay!" Chihaya smiles brightly. "And we do have time to get to the movie!" He stepped back from the counter and danced around. "Come on!"

((ooc: weeee! yes. I'll get us set up over at the theatre. I have no idea what the etiquette of going to the movies here in fandomtown entails so we wing it?))

Right behind you. *puts the closed sign out and follows*

Marty walks into the store and waves at Michael.

"Hi. Michael right? Do you have any digital cameras and maybe one of those handheld tape recorders with the itty bitty tapes?"

We've got some electronics, but they're pretty limited... *looks in locked shelves behind the counter, takes out a camera and sets it on the counter* Doesn't take photographer-quality pictures, but it's better than a lot of cell phone cameras. It's $50. *finds a couple of recorders* We've got the old mini-tape recorders, and we've also got the new digital ones. The digital ones are a little more expensive, $40 versus $15 for the tape one. *raises an eyebrow* Looking to do a little spying?

Marty laughs.

"Well the tape recorder is. Kind of. Donovan Investigations is opening up in town and I'll be working for them. And my handwriting sucks. The digital camera is for yearbook. I'll take two of the digital recorders and the digital camera. I assume it comes with software and a cable to hook up to my computer?"

Marty lays out the correct amount of money in cash.

Yep, they come with everything you need to set they up. *takes two digital recorders out of the case and puts them in a bag with the camera, then takes the money and hands the bag over to Marty* If there's anything wrong with them, if they don't work or something, bring them back and I'll exchange them.

After he waits on Marty, Michael takes a picture (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v382/guinwhyte/ben-hunter-michael.jpg) out of his wallet and shows it to Chihaya. That's Hunter, our son.

Chihaya hangs back after getting back to the store from the movies, (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomtownies/210747.html?thread=8168507#t8168507) not wanting to get in the way.

He takes the picture and looks at it. "He's cute!"

*grins* We like to think so. He's had it tough, but he's running the business successfully, he's keeping himself healthy and he's got a girlfriend who seems to adore him. Overall, he's doing really well.

So other than Kagetsuya, do you have any other family?

He just realizes something funny and giggles. "I was adopted by someone named Michael!" Chihaya's smile faultered a little. "But I'm not allowed to see him anymore. But we write each other in secret."

*laughs at the coincidence* That's too bad -- that you can't see him, I mean. But at least you can write to each other.

So, I know you're taking Journalism. What else are you taking?

"Art Appreciation, Archeology I think, Physical Geography which is really hard and it's just started and Gardening and Cultivating and Poetry, but I missed both those classes this week." Chihaya blows out his breath to lift his bangs. "The teachers keep disappearing and it's hard to keep up with who is coming and going."

Yeah, I guess that would make things tough. That's quite a classload you've got, though. Not that I know much about those subjects, but if there's anything I can help with, just ask. Or ask Ben, he's very smart -- he's a college professor. When he gets back, I mean.

The computer pings, and Michael sees the e-mail response from his son (http://www.livejournal.com/users/bens_mikey/4061.html?thread=88797#t88797). He frowns, then turns his attention back to Chihaya. He waves a hand vaguely at the computer, and while he sounds nonchalant, his expression is worried.

Hunter finally wrote back. Sounds like Ben made it to Pittsburgh okay, at least. And he's getting some writing done. Guess he really needed that trip.

Chihaya can see the worried look and chews at his lip. He wishes there was something he could do. "Well, writing is good. He's a writer, right? So he's being productive." Trailing off, Chihaya chews at his bottom lip. He really wasn't helping things.

Yeah...productive. *shakes his head, trying to shake the mood off* He was having some trouble with writer's block the last couple of weeks, so it's looks like he's broken through that. Maybe he's further along on his book now.

I'm sorry, you must be getting kinda tired of my sulking by now. It's just that things happened this week that were...bad. Really bad. And it hurt us. *frowns* That's why he went to visit Hunter, to get away. And I'm not sure when he's coming back.

"But he is coming back," Chihaya says in a hopeful tone. "If you need to talk about it, Michael, I'll be glad to listen. I don't know how much more good I can be but I listen really good!"

Well, I hope he's coming back. *sighs* I'm not even sure how to talk about it. I just...I did some really stupid things. I was under some sort of spell, and it made me do things that hurt our relationship. I mean, I know it was the spell, he knows it was the spell, but...I feel like it was my fault. And he didn't take it very well, even with that knowledge. We worked through some of it before he left, but I'm not sure it was enough. I...I'm scared. I think waiting here wondering how it's going to work out is worse than if he'd just broken up with me.

*shakes his head* I'm sorry, I shouldn't be dumping this on you. But it does feel better to talk about it a little. Thanks.

"You aren't dumping it on me, I said I would listen!" Chihaya gives Michael a worried look. "He thinks that even though it was a spell on you, you were still acting on emotions that were buried deep, instead of you acting different from your nature, doesn't he?"

*shrugs and frowns* I suppose he does. Maybe I do too. I love him so much, but...I don't know much about spells, but it seems like it didn't take much to get me to dump him and go after someone else. *looks at the floor* I don't know how to convince him I love him. I don't know how to convince me, either. How could it have been that easy to make me to do things if the thought wasn't already somewhere down there, waiting to be brought to the surface?

Chihaya shakes his head vigorously. "I don't believe that. I think you need to find out what kind of spell was put on you before you decide anything more." He bites his lip at his strong wording and his voice softens. "I mean, I just don't think you feel that way, that's all. Maybe the spell made you forget something that you knew or something..."

I wish I knew what happened. Maybe it was something that overrode my senses. I don't know if I'll ever know, though. I just hope we can put this behind us without it meaning the end for me and Ben.

*Shakes his head* I guess I just have to wait and see. Not much else I can do. Thanks for listening to me babble. I really appreciate it.

I should probably stop by the diner and say hello to my Ma. You're welcome to join me, if you want.

Chihaya gives Michael a bright smile. "I have faith you'll work it out, Michael. Because you two love each other and I believe in that." He is quite firm and his tone says he wouldn't belive otherwise.

"I would love to go with you but I can't," he says chewing on his lip again. "I need to get back and call Kagetsuya. He gets worried when I don't check in on the weekends when I'm not home."

"Thanks for going to the movies with me. I had a fun day spending it with you." Chihaya grins. "I'll see you next week and if you need someone to keep you company you can always call me."

Well then you'd better go call. Thanks for inviting me, I really had a good time today. And I really appreciate you lending me an ear. *smiles, and this time it really shines in his eyes* Have a good night now.
