[ADMIN] A Ruling on New Characters

Okay. I think something needs a bit of clarification before I go any further with the application processing. Please bear this in mind when you are applying for townieship and I will be going back through the applications and asking for this information, even of those I approved on Friday so…you are warned.

When [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies first opened up, it was a free-for-all playground for the [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh students to go and play. It gave them something to do outside of campus and it was a really good idea.

Something unexpected happened with [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies. It began to grow. It began to take on a life and a personality. There were townies moving in and setting up businesses. These townies wanted interaction. They wanted to play too, yet didn’t want (for reasons that are individual) to play a student or teacher on the campus.

They opened businesses. The business owners took shape, fleshed out and developed.

We now have a thriving little community outside and separate from [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. Growing up, it needed stricter moderation, which it now has.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies continues to grow and for this I’m glad. Townies are interacting with each other and with the students and I find this so very cool.

The problem that infested [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies early on were businesses set up so that students had a place to hang but then were abandoned. Either the player left the game or they got tired/bored with it.

This is not conducive with where [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies is heading. We are no longer a cardboard cut out town that people can frolic in and forget. There are players here making huge personal investments in helping the town come alive. Hence, the stricter application and review process.

As with all things that grow, I need to make some rules that are going into effect as of this moment or I am going to be overrun with problems as [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies continues to go through her growing pains.

[livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies is for businesses and those people who make their visible support from the businesses contained there or at the campus. The business owners live there, some instructors and students live there.

It makes no sense to have individual characters with no means of visible support and who are waiting for campus enrollment to open to just show up in town. I will deny any individual character application made for the express purpose of killing time until enrollment opens up. This runs contrary to where [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies is going now.

So, it’s very much a NO GO on comm jumping. No creating a townie to hang around town until the campus enrollment open and trying to get that character in school.

If you wish to make a townie character but don’t want them to own a business, watch the boards, see which businesses need/advertise for help. Contacting business owners to see if they have openings is okay too. Once they tentatively have employment, then apply for townie resident status.

Don’t forget, once I get a handle on the applications (sleep? What’s that?), applications will be reviewed for approval on Sundays only. There will be no on board interactions until your character is approved. Period.

Thank you for your patience through the time of growing for [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies.

[[I'd like to point out that Tom Servo, Joel, and Crow, originally all submitted as being "unemployed", will be taking over control of the town movie theater, as soon as we can get that all worked out. So, we are not in the delinquent list of folks who would just be bumming around]]

[identity profile] theatermark.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it makes me pretty happy too.

[livejournal.com profile] b_chenowith will be submitting a formal application as a therapist/townie as soon as the transfer of the movie theater is complete.

Word up, mah brotha.

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
So... once things are caught up & you're reviewing apps on Sundays only... do you think you could do an OOC post letting us all know who the new townies are so we can (a) friend them and (b) keep track of what businesses are around?

Is Ben okay, or do I need to adjust him to co-owner of the Emporium? I kind of figured he was living off of savings or a stipend while writing his novel, while Michael was running the store (an offshoot of what the character did on QAF). I kind of figured they owned it together, though. Your call -- I'm okay with changing his info to be co-owner if that makes him more "legit." (Mostly I made him his own character so that he and/or Michael would have more latitude to go out sometimes during the day while keeping the Emporium manned.)

Makes a lot of sense to me.

[pets teh mun] Thanks for the clarifications. Appreciated.

Lemme know if you want to talk to Jane.

I've brought Jonas in with the idea of setting him on a sort of science study mission. There's a long twisty background plot in my head that fits him with a reason to be in town and an excuse to interact with the other SG charactres -- but said background plot won't be revealed until his memory returns. I've been planning, when it does, to set him with an independent research lab in town where students/teachers/townies with a scientific bent can experiment and play to their hearts' content. But that means he might be wandering around seemingly aimlessly for a little while.

I don't plan to try and enroll him, as I just don't think my brain could take the extra work.

Is this going to work all right with the updated townie rules?

Psst. The Orlov boys will be opening a Russian resturant when they get approved. Just a heads up. ;)

So, is getting Chewbacca his own journal going to be problematic? Had encouragement from Spike to send him to work at the bar.

And much love from both of my characters for the work you do on this.

Um.. what about professional beggars?

[identity profile] death-n-binky.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I should clarify that's a serious question. CMOT Dibbler and Foul Ol' Ron have been pattering in my head for a while...

Crowley is "employed" at Phale's Book Shop, in theory. I don't think I put that on the application. Just fyi.

Michel wouldn't touch that God-forsaken lunatic asylum with a ten-foot pole!

(Trans: No, he's in town for good. ;-)
