The Haven - Open

Quistis set the piece of chalk down and turned away from the board. She looked miserable. Her pale face was oddly flushed and crimson, looking as if she had just washed it, scrubbing roughly and vigorously. She wore jeans and a t-shirt, rather than her usual loose skirts and crisp blouses. Her hair was in sad disarray, though she had managed to pull it back into an untidy ponytail at the nape of her neck. Her glasses were missing, revealing her red-rimmed blue eyes.

She forced a smile, and straightened her narrow shoulders, standing up straighter.

Paige walks into the shop feeling very nervous, she's not felt this, ever but she was about to meet Geoff more or less alone for the first time in a week and she was so scared he was going to yell at her now they were away the school.

She ordered a coffee then went to sit down to wait for him fidgeting nervously with her hair

Quistis smiled sadly, and brought her a cup of coffee. "Rough day?" She asked, picking up on the girl's demeanor.

Paige nods, "I'm meeting my boyfriend, well ex" she sighs "Well I'm not really sure what he is to me anymore, I've never felt so nervous in my life. I don't get nervous! He just has this weird affect on me"

"Exes tend to." Quistis conceded, "You never know how to react around them, to anything they say. You never know which way to turn, or what to do." She sighed, "You can never help remembering what you once..."

"I'm sorry if I'm bothering you."

She smiles at woman realising why she liked it here so much more than the Perk "no not at all it's nice to speak to someone who undrstands how I feel. He called me his only love and then he asked me to move out." she bites her lip nd looks down at the floor

Quistis paused, considering. "Maybe he didn't mean it," she spoke at length, "If he was hurt... people draw back and push each other away to avoid more pain."

She nods still biting her lip, "yeah that's what I want to find ou ,I want to know if he still loves me and I have some stuff to explain to him."

Walking into the Haven, Geoff stops inside the door and looks around. He spots Paige and walks over to her table.

Taking a deep breath, he says, "Paige."

Paige looks up when she hears his voice, she shakes just a little and takes a deep breath why am I so nervous?

"Geoff, thanks for coming, I wasn't sure you'd want to see other than at the school. Hope are you?" she asks, quickly checking her couldn't see any of her slowly healing skin

Geoff gives her a small smile. "May I sit down?"

She moves up on the soft couch to make room for him "of course you can," she almost calls him baby, but manages to stop herself

He sits down on the edge of the couch. "This is a nice place -- it's new, isn't it?"

"Yeah I like it, it's cozier than the perk, I just sort of feel more comfortable here."

She takes a deep breath and turns to face him "are you okay Geoff? I've been so worried about you, I-I never meant to hurt you, you know it wasn't me right? You got my messages?"

Taking another deep breath, Geoff nods. "I'm...well enough, Paige. You didn't hurt me. I...am sorry to have hurt you, and caused all of...this."

She lays her hand gently on his arm "don't blame yourself Geoff, it wasn't your fault, it must have had something to do with me being a witch. You weren't to know what would happen."

"I'm glad to see that you're all right. I heard that you'd become ill, after..." He pauses. "What happened, Paige?"

Paige bites her lip, "I got possessed, by some sort of evil sprit, she did some really bad thing's but I tried to stop her, I'm trying to make everything right with people, only-only..." she drops off Geoff would never believe what Shane had said to her, Paige couldn't quite believe it herself

"I still love you she says very softly half hoping he won't hear

Geoff looks away, watching the other people in the room. He's silent for several minutes.

"There's no way I can understand what happened, Paige, because there's no way I can see what was inside your mind. But..." He looks at her, and his eyes are sad. "It didn't come from outside, did it, Paige?"

"What do you mean? You think it was inside me all this time? Cos it wasn't if it was I wouldn't be here now, Mr Phale removed it and now I'm back to normal, well sort of. It wasn't me Geoff."

Paige feels like he's just hit her, she can't believe he thinks this, first he didn't realise it wasn't me and now he thinks the evil one was a part of me.

Paige looks away from him pretending to look in her bag as a few tears fall, she wipes them away before looking back at him

Ashamed that he's made her cry, Geoff puts his hand on hers. "Paige, I'm sorry. I just...don't understand any of this. I'm trying to make sense of it. You...it's sounds as thought you're telling me that this...spirit just happened to choose the exact moment that you became angry with me to possess you. And I don't understand that."

She looks at him her eyes still teary and squeezes his hand just a little, "I don't understand it either Geoff, I'm pretty new to my powers you know and I wasn't angry at you Geoff, I was just...sad. You told me I was your only love and then you told me you wanted me to go out with other people and move out of the shop." She sighs and looks in her bag pulling out a large box of old fahioned looking chocolates (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomtownies/222312.html?thread=8806248#t8806248) "I bought you these, as part of my apology" she says

Taking the box, Geoff looks into Paige's face. "I...don't require an apology, Paige. I just want to know that you're going to be all right."

She looks up at him and bites her lip before looking away, "I thought I was gonna be ok, only Shane threatened to kill me if I ever saw you again. She thinks I was in control when the evil one did all those terrible things. She really hates me Geoff, it frightened me. It wasn't me Geoff, whatever she tells you you've got to believe that", I-I'm part angel I can't do things like that."

Angels fall, Geoff thinks, but he nods in concern at Paige's words. "I'll talk to Shane. She's very upset right now -- it's been a trying week for her and she was deeply worried about what was happening. She won't hurt you, Paige, but it might be best if you give her a little room, just for a while."

She looks at him and nods solemnly, "I intend to I just didn't want you to believe what she said about me."

She thinks about Sawyer just just for a second

"So what now? Between us I mean, do you still think I should be seeing other people?" she fiddles with her cup of coffee and feels her heart raises she really has no what she wants him to say to her, all she knows is she still loves him.

"I think that's what this whole thing was about to begin with, Paige." He watches her play with the cup. "You've been...seeing someone, haven't you? I mean, you've found someone who cares about you and has been helping you."

Paige closes her eyes again "H-how did you know? I'm not seeing him exactly, but yes there's someone who wants to be with me, but I wanted to speak to you first. It was what you said you wanted, only if I have to choose Geoff, it wouldn't be him."

She looks him in the eye "I didn't want you finding out like this Geoff I wanted to tell you myself."

"Why didn't you, Paige?" He takes a breath and looks steadily at her. "I...I've had to find out a lot of things on my own. It seems like you either haven't been able to trust me enough to tell me, or you've hoped that I wouldn't find out."

Paige's mouth falls open, "I didn't tell you until now because I was possessed and I really didn't want to give her access to you and after that, well you wouldn't see me until today and I wanted to tell you face to face, I thought what we had deserved that. I had no intention of keeping it from you Geoff, I still love you."

"Do you think that I wouldn't have been able to defend myself? Or that I would have been unwilling to talk to you, even...like that? I would have helped you, Paige, if I had known that you wanted it." Geoff looks down at the floor. "What about the other times? You didn't tell me about the spell while I was gone, you didn't tell me about kissing the man in the bar, you didn't tell me about Kolchak...you didn't even want to tell me about being a witch, Paige. Why is it that you've never been willing to trust me?"

"she wanted to kill you Geoff, you can't protect yourself from magic and I did tell you about the man in bar and about being a witch and about Kolchak! I do trust you I was scared of lossing you, admitting you're a witch to someone is a big deal, but by the looks of it that's already happened hasn't it?"

She takes deep breath trying to stop herself from bursting into tears "when you said you loved me did you mean it?" she asks looking him in the eye

"You did tell those things, Paige, but only after the issue had already been raised by someone else." Geoff shakes his head, and his voice softens. "I'm sorry for hurting you, Paige. But if you can't trust me enough to stop trying to...protect me from yourself..." His voice trails off.

After a moment, he adds, "I did mean it, Paige. I do. But...there's a lot more to a relationship than love. And trust has to be a big part of it."

"I do trust you Geoff, it-it's just..." She shakes her head, unable to find the words to explain herself, and looks at him "This isn't going to work is it? We love each, but right now where we are in our lives we can't be together can we?"

She bites her lip and takes his hand "We can't do this now."

Geoff gently squeezes her hand. "No, I'm not certain we can. Not right now."

She nods and picks up her bag feeling strangely calm the stands up to leave

"I'll be in class tomorrow."

Geoff nods solemnly, and stands as she moves to leave.

After watching her go, Geoff picks up the box of candy she'd given him. He looks at it for a long moment, the turns and walks out the door.

She looks at him, all she wants to do really is kiss him, but it's over and that would just complicate things

"Thank you Geoff, you taught me a lot, maybe some other time huh?"

((sorry had to go to bed last night,)
