*~*

Good evening and welcome to the first Fandom Town Town Meeting. I’m Red, your mayor, for those whom I’ve not had the pleasure of greeting yet.

Thank you for coming out tonight. Our meeting should be short as this is our first and we have no old business to discuss, we’ll be moving right into new business. I would encourage you to speak up about things you think should be addressed.

Before we begin, I would like to say a brief hello to our new businesses. Make sure you get out and give them a visit.

Also, in case you’ve missed the fliers for the party on October 30, Wednesday Addams of the Efferton Manor is hosting a Halloween Party at her estate. Please consider attending and giving your support to one of our local businesses.

And now to tonight's business.

((ooc: The topics for the evening's business get their own threads below. Format gacked from the every popular debates, zoo visits and parties.))

Re: Misc. Announcements

[identity profile] addams-daughter.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes, actually." Wednesday Addams rose to her feet and smoother her long skirt before speaking. "As we're hoping for a large turn-out at the ball, we're holding a costume contest. I have five judges, Red, Silent Bob, The Tick, Mrs. Van de Kamp, and DJ Echelon. As this is a relatively high-profile event, I was wondering if any of the local businesses would like to donate prizes. The family will, of course, provide prizes, but it would be a chance for some of the new businesses to bring themselves to the attention of the students and faculty at the School."

Re: Misc. Announcements

[identity profile] punkassjohnny.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm Johnny. And this is Omar." He gestures to the man standing to his right. "And we're the owners of Powders Laundrette. Most of you pro'bly don't know us, 'cos we haven't been out and about much, but we're hoping that'll change." He pauses. "Anyway, the announcement we wanted to make tonight is that Powders will be going over to a laundry card system in the fairly near future. This means that you'll need to stop in and register for a card if you want to be able to use most of the machines or access the building after midnight on weeknights and 10 pm on weekends. The cards will be free to begin with, though, so don't decide not to get one because you think you're going to have to pay extra for it." It looks like he's finishing up, but then Omar gives him a look and he resumes speaking. "Also, we're considering expanding into dry cleaning and we were wondering whether our fellow residents had an opinion on the subject. That's all, yeah." This is clearly a longer, politer and more formal speech than he's used to giving and after a moment more he sits down in a controlled hurry.

The Cat dances about sniffing the ai a little, a dog? I'd better make myself look big!

He stands on tip toes "I'll give 20% dis-dis, off all my boring stuff." he grins

((this means anything not neon or animal print, since he keeps those for himself))

Re: Coupons for Parents Weekend

[identity profile] bens-mikey.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
That's a terrific idea. We'll give 10% off at the Emporium.

*sees Red's tie, tries to look away but finds he can't, he's sucked into the colors of the tie like he's on a bad acid trip*

Re: Coupons for Parents Weekend

[identity profile] medusae-x.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 05:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"With our Pater coming into town that weekend, we're not sure we'll be able to offer anything henna-wise, but.. we're willing to make sure any coupons you'd like are made available up at the school. Maybe set them up at the orientation desk?" Duce offers.

Re: Coupons for Parents Weekend

[identity profile] freelancerchick.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Tex's really starting to wonder about all these discounts, but then she just ripped twenty bucks off a teenager, so she supposed things would level out.

"Ten percent doesn't sound too bad," she said, following MIchael's example.

The Russian Resturant will be giving 20% off lunch meals for Parents.

Beethoven reads over the agenda, checking a few of the words in the German-English dictionary [livejournal.com profile] soniabelmont had found for him.

"I think...a 10 percent discount vould be in order."

"I could offer discounts for the museum." Amanda says

Re: Coupons for Parents Weekend

[identity profile] pflag-mom-deb.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
At Deb's, all meals come with free drinks and dessert. Plus 20% off anything in the shop.

[identity profile] salmoneus.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm Salmoneus, from the First Local Bank. It's great that everyone's offering a discount, but remember, with these people coming from all over, they may not all pay with regular dollars. If you don't accept foreign currency, feel free to send them over to the bank; I'll be open an extra hour on Saturday, and I'll open up for a little while Sunday morning. If you do accept their currency, I'll have the latest exchange rates on a notice outside the bank. I have a few copies with me." He holds up a small batch of tattered sheets, "If you'd like one tonight, come find me after the meeting."

Re: Coupons for Parents Weekend

[identity profile] burger-boy-luke.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, Luke Danes, owner of Luke's Diner. I'll give 20% off any meal over parents weekend."

Re: Coupons for Parents Weekend

[identity profile] pubkeeper.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"We won't be offering any discounts at the pub," Spike said, leaning against the wall and making a face. "But we'll be opening at noon instead of at 5 on Saturday. Sunday we're going to be closed, as we'll be tending bar at the Halloween Ball."

The hotel will give 20% off on double occupency rooms.
10% off of the single occupency.

"Well, free refreshments and a ten percent discount off anything you buy at the Haven seems reasonable to me." Quistis mused to herself.

This actually doesn't sound like a bad idea.

At least, as long as kids and parents don't mind a good bad Roger Corman film or twelve. Maybe something with Joe Don Baker. Ooh, Chuck Norris...

"I can't offer any discounts," Wednesday told him solemnly. "But the Halloween Ball is open to all residents of Fandom Town, Students and Faculty at the school and all Parents. There is no charge for either the dinner, the drinks or the entertainment."

Re: Coupons for Parents Weekend

[identity profile] punkassjohnny.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Johnny stands up again. "We can offer three loads for the price of two." He pauses, considering how to set that up. "But it'd have to be a pay the regular price and get a refund deal rather than a direct discount, of course." And then he's sitting down once again, possibly looking the slightest bit relieved beneath his natural cool.

Re: Townie meet and greet

[identity profile] bens-mikey.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
We Townies really need to look out for each other in case of another zombie attack, and to do that, we really need to get to know each other so we know who to defend and who to attack. Especially with all the new people coming in.

Do we want something like a carnival, with games and stuff, or just something like a big pot-luck? It would be interesting to see what people would bring to eat, considering all the different cultures that come together here.

Maybe have it one of the weekends between Parents Weekend and Thanksgiving?

Red? Chaucer, The Doctor, and I would like to throw a huge bash. I need to know what permits I need. It'll be in the park...a Rennaisance Faire. I'm taking care of all the specifics.

Re: Next Meeting Plan

[identity profile] addams-daughter.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Efferton Manor is a very large house," Wednesday offered. "I would be pleased to make the ballroom or the dining hall or both available for future town meetings."

Re: Gather round the Coffee and Lemon Bars and Chocolates

[identity profile] wonkacandyshopp.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wonka starts arranging tables to his satisfaction once the meeting is winding down. Then he walks back to his shop, loads himself up with baskets of chocolates and Tonks' spelled sweets and returns to the town hall, putting the baskets down on the tables. He sits down near-by with a basket of his own and beams happily to anyone who looks like they might consider taking a basket. "They're absolutely free! Gratis!" he calls out.
