The Museum is Open

Amanda is in her office, catching up on some much needed sleep, the door is slightly ajar. People can feel free to browse the exhibits, and even try to rouse Amanda but more than likely, it won't happen.

(OOC: mun [I hate that word, but since everyone else uses it...] will be at work from 1 PM to 7 PM EST, but feel free to look around, make threads, even try and wake Amanda, but she will wake up when mun gets home from work at approx. 7:20 EST)

After the Bake Sale...

Exhausted from playing hostess at the Bake Sale and wanting a place to chill before going home to Buffy and Illyana, Beka wandered by the museum. Something about the place drew her.

Tonight she made her way around the collections, not so much studying anything in particular as letting the objects call to her as they would. So far her favorite was a stunning garnet cabochon with a cameo suspended from a heavy velvet cord. She stopped there to look at it for a while, imagining what it would be like to wear it.

"Oh, hey," Beka replied. "Buffy, you mean. Yeah, she'll be around again. She's hiding from some people back home for Parent's Weekend, I think. I'm sorry, I don't think I caught your name before."

"Beka Valentine." Beka smiled, then thought of something. "Hey, about Buffy and the weird 'slave-talk'. That was a class assignment. Just in case you were wondering. She's not usually that docile. I wouldn't want it to affect her application."

"Duncan. The gym teacher?" Beka grinned. "I did notice you seemed happy to see him."

"It's funny how often that happens here in Fandom," Beka replied. "People just...show up. Like you and this museum. I'm starting to get used to it, but it makes it very hard to keep track of things and people."

"Interesting, though." Another bit of jewelry caught Beka's eye, an odd piece made almost exclusively of a dark green stone. "You must've been to a lot of interesting places if all of these things are yours."

"I've been a few. Travel's a bit easier where I come from, and Pop's a...salvage operator. So..." She shrugged a shoulder and smiled wryly. "I get to see a lot."

"Yeah. I like treasure. Plus, it just feels right here. Pretty things, good security system. It's obvious you care about the collection, so it's a comfortable place to prowl around."

Beka considered the question for a minute. She had been thinking about it, but it wouldn't do to seem too eager. "I had a TA position, but that fell through. What would you need me to do?"

"Okay, I'll be straight with you. I'm fantastic at screening calls, but not good at relaying messages. I can spin a decent line and talk to just about anyone, but hostessing? Not my thing. So receptionist and tour guide are probably out." Beka studied Amanda, wondering what the woman would make of her history. "I've run my own salvage and cargo ops, though. So I'm pretty reliable. And I like it here. So what're you looking for in an assistant?"

Beka nodded. "That sounds like fun. Would I be able to work around my class schedule, meetings and other obligations? Or would you object to me meeting with people here during quieter hours, provided that I was able to leave the meetings to attend to your business?"

"I can fill out an application, if you need one for your files. Otherwise, I could just send an email with my schedule." For the first time in days, Beka felt like her old self again. She grinned, eyes flashing. "I think I'm going to like this job."

"Me either. Rules..." Beka rolled her eyes a bit. "They tend to bug me."

Beka blinked at that, then a slow smile crept over her face. "I should've known from the security. Only someone who knew how to take stuff would know how to protect it this well."

"Of course," Beka said, smiling. "It's an excellent way to give back to society."

"Me too." Beka checked her chrono. "I should probably let you attend to business. I may swing by tomorrow with that friend I mentioned, and then I'm booked for Monday. I'll send you my schedule, but maybe I can start Tuesday?"

"You too. And...thanks." Beka nodded pleasantly, and headed out into the evening.
