Phale's Rare Books, Sunday Morning

Aziraphale is puttering about the shop, readying it for opening. He's thinking about his conversations with CJ and the Doctor from the previous day -- interesting that they had both chosen to come to him with the same questions on the same day.

He steps into the little kitchen and begins preparations for tea.

[He walks in, positively buzzing with excitement] Aziraphale, I have the most exciting news. Would you like to hear it?

[Smiling broadly] I'm staying here in town, angel. I'm a proprieter of a fine business now. The hotel...fell into my lap. It's going to be delicious...and of course you're invited to come in and do your job.

Thank you, angel. I do hope yo'll come see me. We have quite the view, and although I won't take the best room, I'm certain my new home will be quite posh. [He wanders around the room, the ideas tumbling out of his mouth] I'm going to go for modern. I like the sleek black and chrome. Ah, but you know that. And perhaps some plants. I miss my plants...

We'll be going soon. I was thinking, if you like the bedroom upstairs we'll just move it all, and if not I can give you your storeroom back and we'll make you something else. You'll likely have to go back to your odd hours, angel, what with living there...

Kiki comes in, her parents behind her. "Mom, Dad," she says, "this is Mr. Aziraphale, and this is Mr. Crowley. I come here sometimes to read and do my homework and such. This is my Mom, Kokiri, and my Dad, Okino," Kiki introduces. "I'm just showing them around the town this morning."

"Oh, it's just lovely to meet you," smiles Kokiri, "Kiki's told us so much about you."

Kiki has dragged her father down the shelves of the books, excitedly showing him a book on brooms and flying, and Kokiri's voice drops.

"I'd like to thank you, too, for all you've done for her. Truth be told, I've been worried about here by herself -" Kokiri shakes her head, a little embarrassed, "I wasn't as worried when she set out on her first training, she was two years younger, then. I just feel so much better knowing there's an adult here that she can talk to."

"That's just wonderful of you. It's very important for students of this age to have someone they trust like that," Kokiri replies. Her eye falls on a small volume half-hidden on a shelf behind Aziraphale. "Why," she exclaims, "do you really have a first edition of Avateri's treatise Equilibria of Multilateral Post-cyclic Potions? I've been looking for a copy of this for months!"

"This is just wonderful," Kokiri says, turning the leaves of the book over, "Absoolutely breathtaking! Thank you very much - how much is this one?"

[Crowley looks far less stylish than usual. He's in neutral tans and browns and is actually wearing cordouroy. He is as pleasant as ever]

Kiki, my pest. See, your mother came after all. And you have a father too. Imagine that.

Kiki grins and waves. "Yep, they did!"

[identity profile] flash-serpent.livejournal.com 2005-10-30 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
And are they sorely disappointed in you?

[identity profile] kikidelivers.livejournal.com 2005-10-30 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not enough for you to truly enjoy it, Mr. Crowley," Kiki answers.

Okino looks at his daughter in confusion. "Why, Kiki," he says, "Your mother and I aren't disappointed in you! Where did you get such an idea?"

More's the pity. Where are my peppermints? [his jaw is set, but his lips twitch as he represses a smile]

"This must be where you try to make me feel guilty that I haven't brought you a box yet," Kiki answers readily, causing her father to arch an eyebrow. Kiki digs a hand in her pocket, and pulls out two. She holds them out to Crowley. "These are all I have with me right now, but you're welcome to them," she says.
