OPEN -- OCTOBER 30
Ever since yesterday, Vitaly had been in a bad mood; he really couldn't remember why but he went about his business. Flicking on the neon sign that indicates their open, he set up the same signs as always: 20% OFF ON MEALS FOR PARENTS WEEKEND scribbed in Vitaly's sloppy handwriting. There's also the standard ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS -- APPLY INSIDE!.
Menus were set up in nice little stacks on each table, ready to be ordered from.

He glances around the open area, and heads over to Nikolos when he sees him.

Sliding into a seat, she doesn't even glance at her menu, apologizing, "Sorry, Daddy, Oz.. Alex needed my help taking down the Journalism displays." Taking a ladylike sip of water, she asks her father with a smile, "Have you ordered?"

"Dree you look wonderful," he tells her, "I was just about to. I thought we might start out with the black salmon caviar and some Borsch. He motions for the NPC waiter to come over.

Her grin is impish, "If they have them, we'd like potato and cabbage piroshkies. We promise not to repeat the events of the Moscow trip." Explaining to Oz, she fumes quietly, "The waiter was rude to my mother. He indicated he could seat us in the back where noone could see us. We decided that was a politely phrased request for us to find an imaginitive way to use piroshkies as garment accessories." Sipping the water again, she almost purrs, "Mashed potatoes and butter are so terribly hard to get out of silk suits.."

To the NPC waiter he says, "2 orders of cabbage and potato piroshkies and an order of black salmon caviar."

Tsking in amusement, she reads the rest of the list, "Their wines aren't half-bad, either.. except the Californian. Unless the Valley had a good year in 99 and we hadn't heard about it."

Fidgeting absently with her necklace, she sips her water and hails the waitron to request a hot glass of Russian chai.

Nikolos takes advatage of the waiters presence to ask for a glass of Medovuha, "Something wrong Dree? You seem oddly distracted."

Since her father can't see her feet, she kicks Oz under the table - knowing how he'd normally react to that look on her face and warning him not to. Because there are spoons on the table, and her father would probably find inventively painful uses for them.
"We're just.. slightly disappointed that our two favorite teachers, Professor Jerusalem and Professor Drusilla, are both unavailable. We were really hoping you could meet them, because we're doing so well in their classes and we wanted you to have nice reports to bring home to Mater." She fidgets with the necklace, pouting very slightly.
And hopes she doesn't have to kick Oz again.

"She keeps pestering us about the boys we've met and the dates we've been asked on," Duce complains, pouting slightly more. "We went to homecoming to make her happy. She should be good until Prom." She sighs with apparent relief at the thought, "And that's at least two years away. Three, if we can figure a way out of getting asked to Junior Prom."
She muses, toying with her water glass, "Maybe we'll pretend to have mono that month."
Her voice goes tiny, "Just really wish she could've made it. Miss her."

I highly doubt you won't be asked to the Junior Prom Dree, a girl like you will have her dance card if she gave them half the chance. After all, how often do boys get to dance with a young woman who's not only devastatingly beautiful but a conversationalist as well?
She wanted to come, she really did. It just wasn't the best time. You understand Dree. She loves you very much.

It doesn't quite work. Wrinkling her nose, she states adamantly, "Definitely planning to have mono for at least a month our Junior year, Daddy. You will write us a note excusing us from all extracurriculars, won't you? If it'll help, we'll drink from a public fountain every day until we actually get mono."
Duce looks downcast, sighing and kicking her feet under the table, not so incidentally hitting Oz in the ankle again. She's not sure how much of her upset he'll be able to handle, but so far he's doing ok. "We know, Pater. Did you get? pictures, at least?"
