Rodney and Jonas go house-hunting [Sunday afternoon]

Two young men can be seen walking through Fandomtown, arguing as they go. Both are reasonably tall, although one is a bit more stocky than the other.

They're looking for a house. And somewhere from which to run a business.

They're also arguing rather loudly.

"No! I said that place was too small! Really, can you see us running a business from that pokey apartment? We need a house. A big one."

"There are only two of us, though. Why do we need that much space?"

He catches sight of a small, interesting-looking building. It's red brick, and has an odd out-cropping of striped tenting material over the door. "That one looks nice."

"Because I need that much space!" Rodney scowls at Jonas. "Do you always ask this many questions?"

He looks over the building. "Nice, yes. It probably has rats and spiders, too. And don't forget that we're actually going to have to pay the rent with this 'Mr. Fixit' business. Our retainers from the Air Force barely cover our food bills." He sniffs. "It's like indentured slavery!"

Jonas gives Rodney an apologetic look. "Sorry." A moment later he adds, "Do my questions bother you?"

He looks at the building as they pass by. "Do you really think it has rats and spiders?"

Rodney is taken aback. Most people tend to argue, not apologise. "Well, not really, I suppose," he says to cover his confusion. "At least it means you're paying attention."

"Well, I guess we're not likely to find out standing here on the sidewalk, are we?"

Jonas cocks his head. "Good point," he agrees, pushing open the door of the building.

"It's a little dark."

Rodney looks around. "We can deal with dark - although the electricity bill will probably send our accounts into convulsions. Incidentally, do you know how to treat anaphylactic shock?"

He opens a few doors and wrinkles his nose. "Well, if not rats and spiders, it certainly has a bad case of mildew."

After going through the listings of houses given to them by the Fandomtown Realtor, Rodney picks out a rather eccentric two-story house with dove-grey weatherboarding.

"This one reminds me of one of the houses I grew up in when my family lived in Toronto."

Jonas gives the house a once-over, looking intrigued. "I like that, Rodney. It's very interesting. Do you want to look at it?"

He wonders if he knows anything about Rodney's family in Toronto. Or, anything about Toronto for that matter.

"Well, I suppose, yes. I mean, I wouldn't have mentioned it other--" He waves a hand at the house. "After you."

As they climb the stairs to the front door, Rodney adds, "Although the house in Toronto creaked badly when there was a storm on. You know, I once spent half the day huddled in a corner of my room because my sister Jeannie told me that the storm was God being angry at me because I dressed her Barbie dolls up in tissue paper lab coa-- Never mind. At any rate, I thought the house was going to come crashing down and it would all be my fault." A reminiscent smile touches his mouth.

Jonas gives him a puzzled look, as if he's trying to decide whether to laugh or by sympathetic. "Why would she tell you that?"

As they enter the house, Jonas adds, "Do I know your sister Jeannie?"

Rodney shrugs. "I guess, she was mad that I took her Barbie dolls to play with. Of course, that was before I discovered that God didn't actually exist."

He sniffs. "Well, at least you can't smell the mildew in here."

"And there's more light," Jonas points out helpfully. "And it reminds you of home." He smiles, certain that this is a selling point.

Jonas leads Rodney down the street toward the third building on their list, a squat cement-block structure situated near the town junkyard. Stopping in front of it, he surveys the neighborhood, and then looks at the building. "It looks...very solid," he says.

Rodney looks at the building. Then at Jonas. Then at the building.

"Only in the way that water is wet, wormhole theory is complex, and the Wraith are a Very Bad Thing."

He doesn't like the proximity to the junkyard, but they're here, they might as well take a look inside.

It's grey and dingy. And grey. And, dingy.

"Cheerful," he says dryly.

"What are the Wraith?" Jonas follows Rodney inside. He takes in the slight dankness, and the lack of adequate lighting, and the overall...yes, Rodney had it right, dinginess.

"Well...it would hold up well in the event of an explosion."

"The Wraith are..." Rodney eyes Jonas. "Like the Goa'uld. Only for the Pegasus galaxy. Which we discovered at the Antarctica base-- Should I be telling you all this?"

He snorts at Jonas' description. "Well, yes, the place would hold up well in an explosion, but I don't think that would make much of a difference to us since we'd probably be dead if we exploded anything in here!

"This is worse than the place with the mildew." He mutters as they walk through.

[ooc: Thanks, but we're going to find a house so we can blow it up invite people around. It's difficult to do that on someone else's ship. However, at some stage, get Ivanova to introduce herself to Jonas or Rodney. Rodney at least would love to drool over meet her!]
