The Perk - Early Monday...

Shane sits at her usual table, feet curled up in the seat, a book cradled in her lap. A cup of Black Death sits steaming rather innocuously in its mug on the table in front of her, but only occasionally does she reach over to pick it up and take a sip. Sitting next to the mug is a notebook and occasionally, Shane will drag it down off of the table and pull the pen from the corner of her mouth in order to jot something down.

"Am I bothering you?" His voice is softer than usual, and his eyes are bloodshot and slightly rimmed in red.

The grin falters and fades as soon as she gets a look at his face and hears the almost hesitant pitch of his voice. "No," she says quietly. She sits up in her seat a bit and closes her book, placing it up on the table. "Sit down. Talk to me."

Geoff turns a chair backwards and sits facing Shane, resting his arms and his chin on the backrest.

"You know how we agreed to tell each other what's on our minds, instead of just leaving it to be worried about? I've got some things I need to tell you."

"O-okay..." Shane says, the furrow in her brows deepening as she lowers her feet to the floor and pushes her book aside, resting her elbows on the edge of the table. "Tell me, Geoff. I'm listening."

Geoff eyes are fixed on the book in front of her, although it's obvious he's not really looking at it. "I had a...very interesting experience the other night. Went for a ride on a 'motorcycle'. With Loz, from the pub."

"You -- with Loz?" She echoes, frowning. Taking a deep breath, she lets it out and looks up at him again. "Okay... so...? What happened?"

Still looking at the book rather than at Shane, he answers, "It was fun, actually. It's funny, the more I talk to him, the more I realize that he's a lot deeper than he'd have people believe." He finally looks up and meets her eyes, smiling. "Would you believe that we spent some time in the pub the other day, talking about poetry and...writing with quills?"

Shane offers him a tentative smile. "Why wouldn't I believe it?" She asks quietly, tipping her head to one side just slightly as she gives him an inquiring look. "I mean... this is Fandom, right. Singing scorpions, zombies, vampires, superheroes..."

"Singing scorpions? That's a new one. You'll have to tell me about that sometime."

He takes a deep breath. "The thing is, while we were out -- he took me out to the mainland, along the coast, which was incredibly beautiful --" He looks away again, back at the table. "The thing is...he asked me to kiss him. And I did."

Licking her lips, Shane reaches for her mug and takes a sip. Setting it aside again, she meets his eyes steadily. "Okay," she says evenly. "And...?"

"I'm pretty sure I'd have let it go further than that, if he'd wanted." Geoff pauses, reaching out to pick at the edge of the table. "Actually, I'm pretty sure he did want, but he didn't push. Which...I really respect."

Finally looking back at Shane, he adds, "I'm not telling you this because I don't know how to handle it. I actually think I'm handling it pretty well. I'm not...'freaked out', as you'd say, the way I was with Michael."

Lifting her hand up, Shane rests her thumb beneath her bottom lip as she worries on it. "Okay, so you're not freaked," she murmurs. "Is it... is it Becky? Like, because of this whole thing with Loz and then the other thing with Becky, you're confused?"

Geoff shakes his hand. "No. I'm pretty certain I'm not confused about it at all. I'm not sure whether or to tell Becky, or what I'd say if I did, but that's another issue entirely."

He tilts his head to the side, resting it against his arm, and looks at Shane. After a minute, he says, "Loz isn't actually what's on my mind. I guess that was just a...prologue, so to speak."

"Okay," Shane says as she sits back in her seat, drawing her feet back up into the chair with her, swiping her coffee mug from the table to cradle it between her hands. "So what's actually on your mind...?"

Giving Shane an amused look, Geoff says, "You don't have anything at all you want to say? About what I've told you?"

Shane's lips purse slightly as she gives him a perplexed look. "No," she says, smiling. "Why would I? Okay --" She holds up her hand and takes another sip of her coffee. "I... I can totally understand the thing about Becky, okay? The thing about Loz, too... I get that. What should I say?"

"Nothing. I guess I just..." He laughs. "You're such an oasis of calm, Shane. That's what I love about you."

After a moment's reflection, he says, "I talked to Ten last night. At the party. About...about Will."

Shane's shoulders shake with silent laughter as she takes another sip of coffee, though she soon quiets at his mention of telling Ten about Will. "Yeah?" She asks, giving him a fond and encouraging smile. "What did he say?"

"Not very much. Thanked me for being honest, and said he respected me for it." His face colors slightly, and he rests his forehead on his arms. "He was very nice about it, very understanding. Hugged me, before I left. I just don't know how I'm going to be able to talk to him again, after that. I'll be wondering the entire time, whether or not he wishes I'd never said anything."

"Why would he wish that...?" Shane asks, giving him a confused look.

Geoff looks up, appearing just as confused. "What do you mean?"

"Why would he wish that you hadn't said anything?" She asks, brows creasing slightly.

"Because..." He peers at Shane for a minute, trying to figure out why this isn't making sense to her.

"Because...I told him..." The realization hits him finally, what it is that she's not picking up on, and he reddens. "I told him that he reminded me of Will, and when he asked me to explain why, I did."
