On rooftops, around town, shortly before curfew
The Tick wasn't a detective. He knew this. If there was an investigation to be done, it would have to be done by other people. People who thought with their brains.
The Tick thought with his heart. He felt things. And right now, he felt that he had to be out here, running around on the town's roofs. A week ago, somewhere around here, a life had been ended too soon. He watched the alleys as he lept from roof to roof, not expecting to spot anything, but you never knew until you looked.
He was devoted to protecting the people. A week ago, he didn't even know Kitty was in need of protection. This was worse than if he had been there and failed. He didn't have a chance to save her.
The Tick stopped. The alley he was now overlooking probably wasn't where it happened. He didn't even know if anyone knew where it happened. But this felt like the place to stop. He reached into his pocketand pulled out an object as he walked to the edge of the roof. He was now holding a Pez dispenser. It had Garfield's head on it.
The Tick laid the Pez dispenser on the roof's parapet. If he couldn't do anything to save her life, he could at least honor it in a small way. He turned back knowing that he had done something for her.

The wind slipped around her ankles, and she smiled absently, and headed back to her shop.
