Late Thursday in the Park

Supposedly there was a curfew, but the officer who patrolled the park never seemed to take notice of him. He sat on the bench with Snookums on his lap. He absently stroked the duck, careful to avoid the razor sharp teeth. He sat in the cold sparkling clear night and watched the movements of the heavens, blowing smoke up at the stars.

"This seat taken?" Callisto was supposed to be back at the dorms, but she was bored, and look, here was a duck with razor sharp teeth.

Oh, and some guy who thought it was cool to wear sunglasses at night.

Does it look taken? [His words are sharp, but he remains in a relaxed posture looking up.] Sit if you want to, poppet. The duck is asleep.

"Hey, just thought I'd ask, some people have personal space issues." Callisto shrugs as she sits. "Cute duck, he have a name?"

Who names a duck? Don't be ridiculous. [he takes a slow drag and holds the smoke for a long time. Turning his head to look at her--] His name is Snookums.

Refraining from making the You obviously. retort that sprang to mind, Callisto instead respons with "Snookums. Suits him. You have a name, or is the idea of that ridiculous as well?"

"Of course, where are my manners?" Callisto places her hand over her heart in mock-regret. "I'm Callisto."

[He smiles and laughs in his rasping hisy way] Of course you are, precious. Certainly not up to any mischeif. You look like such a sweet morsel. But you smell...[he sniffs the air]...like hell on wheels.

"Oh, darn. I knew I should have used my other cologne today." Callisto sighs. "Since, I think it's my turn now, tell me Mr Crowley, what reason are two such fine gentlemen as yourself and Snookums out so late?"

With fava beans and a nice Chianti? "Three admirable ways to spend your time. Although I do have to admit I'm not so big on the eating of livers myself. It's a taste thing."

Snookums loves them, and they keep him from biting the other duck's heads off. I think he has a taste for brains as well.

Callisto shakes her head, before snickering "'You're very pretty, they'd like to touch you.' That may be true, but I have no real desire to touch, or be touched by, them."

Tell me why you like the fire, dearest. [He presses a cigarette between his lips and snaps open his Zippo. Once it's lit, he doesn't close it. The flame burns bright in the darkness.]

"I don't just like it, I love fire. Always have, it's a part of me. The almost cleansing way it burns everything to ashes..." Callisto looks at the flame while she speaks, her fingers might be twitching.
