The Fandom Town Police Department sends out the evening patrol. If any students are in town close to the 10pm curfew, they will be able to get a police officer to escort them back to campus if they wish.

An attentive policeman might notice a tall figure in a blazer running from the Echolls house back to the dorm, taking side streets and alleys wherever possible.

Or he might not notice anything at all, because I'm such a social dolt, such a fool, why did I even bother going to the party at all, oh, the humiliation

An officer in the area makes note of the running figure. But, as there is no one chasing him and no outcry from the house, he just makes a note of the runner's description and direction of travel in case a call comes in later.
