Phale's Rare Books, Wednesday Evening

After seeing Kiki off to her class, Aziraphale takes one last look around the shop to be sure everything is back in order. There are a few stacks of books on the counter now that need reshelving, but he figures he'll leave those for Kiki or Marty next time they're in.

The events of the past week have been draining, and Aziraphale is still tired from last night. He settles in for a quiet cup of tea and a book, occasionally glancing with a smile at the lovely arrangement of chrysanthemums that Kiki had given him.



((As Kiki's gone for the day, and her thread was getting cluttered, I've started a new one. Aziraphale will be available for RP until around midnight EST. The shop is available for anyone to use, but it will be closing at curfew. Please note: I'm trying a new system with setting up comment threads. Help me out by using them, and we'll see how it works.))


EDITED: The shop is now locked as of Crowley's thread. Anyone wanting in to shop or see Phale can do so. Anyone coming in to see Crowley will find a locked door. No, no one's keys will work, either.

It was just under curfew. Loz and Kadaj were closing up the Pub and Yazoo wanted to get over to the shop before it closed. He eased in the door and looked around to see if anyone was still there.

The fact that the door was unlocked was a good sign.

Aziraphale looks up at the soft chime of the bell. Getting up from his seat in the reading lounge, he walks out to the front of the store.

He smiles when he sees Yazoo. "Good evening, my dear. Come in, please."

Holding his box, Yazoo shut the door behind him and went to the counter. He took out the bowl (http://www.korean-arts.com/images/WPBL001%20incised%20lotus%204x6.jpg) he had bought and filled it up with the jelly beans he picked up from Wonka's, arranging it on the edge of the counter. He was smiling, quite proud of his contribution.

Aziraphale watches Yazoo's actions with a puzzled expression, but he smiles brightly once the young man is finished.

"Thank you, my dear!" He walks over to the counter and runs a finger along the side of the bowl. "This is lovely, Yazoo. And so kind of you."

Nodding once and feeling just a bit embarrassed, he avoided looking at Aziraphale and glanced around the shop instead. He figured while he was here, he should try to find another book. "They're mixed," he said, talking about the jelly bean flavors.

"Really?" Aziraphale samples one of the jellybeans. "Delightful. I'll be sure to tell Crowley about them, so he can pick out all the peppermints and licorices."

He watches Yazoo look around. "If you'd like to browse through the books, you're welcome to do so. Or are you looking for something...another poetry book? Did your brother like the ones you bought for him?"

"Yes, he liked them," Yazoo said. He smiled at Aziraphale. What was it about this place that made him feel so...small? It brought back memories from so long ago. Or maybe they weren't so long ago and just manufactured memories. Neither he nor his brothers knew for sure.

"Maybe getting him another one is good," he said, coming back to the present.

Aziraphale smiles back, and shows him to the poetry section. "Take as long as you like, my dear."

He wanders off into the kitchen to fetch Yazoo's cocoa.

Yazoo didn't move, turning to watch Aziraphale leave. He went to rest against the counter and wait for his return.

Expecting Yazoo to have gone into the stacks to search for poetry books, Aziraphale is surprised upon his return to see the youn gman leaning against the counter. Handing Yazoo the cup of cocoa, he asks, "Did you find one?"

Shaking his head, he took the cup and grinned. "Why?" he asked simply. "Why are you here?"

Aziraphale watches Crowley enter the shop, smiling to himself. He waits to catch the demon's eye, and then raises a questioning eyebrow.

[He smirks.] If you insist.

But you're so good at it, angel. How could I possibly refuse you anything you ask of me? [His smirk fades and he looks down for a moment, clears his throat, and then walks to the tea service.] Do we have any tarts left?

Yes, a few. [Aziraphale's smile looks sad for a moment, and his voice becomes very soft.]

What happened...it's over now. It doesn't matter, at least not to me. [His brow furrows slightly.] I'm just...glad you're all right.

[He frowns, his eyebrows furrowing below the frames of his glasses.]It does matter, angel. I made a terrible mistake...but worse than that...

[He flops down on the couch, sprawling] She was only a little girl, Aziraphale. If I had known...if she hadn't buried it so deep...she was only a child. An innocent.


They could call me home for what I've done. You know that, right?
