The Fourth Sin - Sunday Night

Becky sat behind the desk of the Fourth Sin, drumming the nails of her left hand on the tabletop, while doodling on a notepad.

Were someone to look at the page, they would see sketches of guns and Becky's own name written in embellished cursive. The central focus, and the object of Becky's attention at the moment, is a stylized, almost cartoonish drawing of what appears to be a shadowy young couple embracing.

Gob strode into the Fourth Sin. The service the other night was good enough to earn his repeat business. As he strode up to the desk, he gave a slightly sleazy (in other words, Gob-like) "Hello."

[OOC: I'm bored tonight. Thus, time to play with Becky a little.]

Becky glanced up from where she had been adding extra detailing around the girl's eyes, and sighed. "Hi. How are you tonight, Magic Man?"

[ooc: Yay! I might send Rory to talk to your other character in a bit (with Vladdie in tow), once I figure out what direction her evening is taking.]

"Oh, I'm just fine. And that's Illusion Man. Hehe, that's not a problem. A simple mistake!" Gob smiled to cover the sting of another person calling him a mere magician.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Illusions. I see." Becky folded her hands neatly under her chin and looked up at him with an expression of rapt attention. "What's the difference?"

"Well, magic doesn't exist, of course!" Gob chuckled as if it were the silliest thing he had ever heard. It definitely wasn't. "Illusions are skillful tricks that use intelligence and dexterity to confuse all watchers."

"Uh huh. But what about the watchers who are less intelligent than you or I, and actually think you're doing magic?" Becky asked, tilting her head.

Gob chuckled. "Well, fooling those idiots is half the fun. It's only smart people like us who are in on the gag."

Becky arched a brow. "Right. Sugar, how do you know which ones buy it? People around here generally aren't stupid."

"Almost everyone falls for it if you're good enough. Most of the people in the world are nowhere near as smart as they think they are." Gob honestly believed this. He didn't notice the irony in that statement.

"So, do you have any suggestions for me tonight?"

"Don't singe Dally's sheets again?" she suggested.

"Yeah. Sorry about that. I left the thing for the burst of flame in my pocket last week. It's back at home tonight, though."

"Uh huh. Are you packing anything else interesting tonight, hon?" Becky asked, giving him an appraising once-over.

Gob chuckled, "Nothing new, but Dallas seemed pretty interested in what I was packing last time, sweetheart."

[OOC: You forced my hand. I had to say it.]

"Well, darlin', that's what she's paid to do," Becky replied sweetly.

[ooc: And I would be so disappointed if you HADN'T.]

If Becky were watching Gob's eyes, she would have seen his spirits drop slightly. The rest of his face soon followed as he turned away melodramatically. When he spoke again, it had less sleaze and more patheticness. "Well. What do you have for me tonight?" He may have had a tear building in his eye.

Becky's resolve to be obnoxious melted a little at his tone. "Whatever you like, honey," she replied gently. "Dally'd love to entertain again, and we have a blonde who just got here, Goldie, plus all the usual girls. It's a slow night. I think everyone's available."

Gob's voice was slightly strained as if he was trying to choke back the tears. "I think I'll go with Goldie."

Becky pressed a button on the phone that was on the desk, and glanced back up at him. "Okay. She's expecting you." She surveyed him a trifle poutily. "Anything I can do to improve your mood, honey? Other than what Goldie's going to do, I mean," she added hastily.

[ooc: I cannot wait until

randomhooker gets approved for townie status (though she's Wendy, not Goldie, at the moment), and our little NPC girl can actually play, sort of.]

"No, no. I'll be fine!" There was a small sob in the word "fine."

When he got to Goldie's room, he spent three minutes crying before he could get started on what he was paying for.

[OOC: Oh, fun! Love the username, too.]

[ooc: You have managed to put BECKY on a guilt trip. I applaud you.]

[OOC: HA! I'm awesome. For the record, Gob is a really pathetic human being in many ways, not the least of which is how he can be led to melodramatic crying by barely touching on a few triggers. If you really want to make him cry next time, mention his father. He won't even make it to the room before breaking down.]

[ooc: Becky is so, so bad with emotion. So of course I'll do that, because making her uncomfortable makes me happy. And she has her own parental issues, so she might end up just dragging out some alcohol and getting all maudlin.

And now? I really, really want to get Gob and Becky drunk together.]

[OOC: Gob is the oldest child, but he's a complete failure in life and could never hope to match his younger brother's success. The only thing he wants is his father's love and approval, but it will never come. His father realizes just how pathetic he is, so he deemed Gob's brother as the future of the family at a very young age. But all of this is in a funny way.

They so need to get drunk together!

[ooc: And Becky's parents have NO idea as to what she does. She's from a normal, middle-class family, and really took up the traide because she liked feeling powerful. It's incredibly warped. And so she's constantly trying to keep her mother from finding out where she is, etc. because the shame would ruin that little delusion.

I have just decided Becky has several bottles of scotch hidden in that desk.

And...yes, though it'll have to be brief, since I need to get her back to her room at a reasonable time. (No, I don't care about my own bedtime, but my CHARACTER has to be in her room.)]

[OOC: They're destined to be drinking buddies! And the scotch will be fun!

Tick will be on the roof for as long as necessary, so send her up whenever. She'll be getting a present and everything! Also, I'll probably send you an e-mail tomorrow about what I'll be doing with Tick, since it may affect Rory a little.]

[ooc: Yay! A present! Rory does so love presents. Especially if they're...utilitarian.

And oooh, email. I'm now intrigued about what Tick could be up to.]

(ooc: Yeah, I've been down with bird flu or something. Crawling out of bed was almost too much effort; RP was not happening. I'm feeling a bit better now, though!)

Ironically, I got a flu shot like two days ago, very much against my will.]

Inara returns to the Fourth Sin after her weekend on Sihnon.

"Evening, Becky," she says as she comes in the door.

"Hello," Becky calls, glancing up from her drawings. "Have a nice weekend?"

"Yes, thank you, the entertainment for the weekend was very enjoyable. Parades, dances, and some very beautiful displays. It's always a pleasure to spend time with this client - and not just for the fee's sake." Her eyes twinkle.

"Did anything much happen in town while I was gone?"

Becky arches a brow, and thinks for a second. "No, not really. They're still investigating that girl's death, but other than that...same as usual."

"Well, I'll be upstairs unpacking if I'm needed for anything."
